Is Ambien an hallucinogenic?

There are a few other posts on this board, and on some others as well from people who have experienced the same thing with Ambien. Though, usually, they were taking more than prescribed. Do you know if she is taking the prescribed dose, or maybe doubling up when she has trouble sleeping? If she is taking the amount prescribed, with no extra, the current dose might just be too strong for her.

I would advise you to talk to her doctor about this. This med just might not agree with her, and she may need something different.

I took Ambien for about 6 years - after a drunken afternoon's antics nearly killed me. (Cut my arm just about off). Neadless to say - have been sober now since 96. I never had a problem with ambien - except if I woke during the evening and had to go to the bathroom - I couldn't go BACK to sleep... as if the pill had my body thinking I was through sleeping. However, I have heard from many others that Ambien can cause reactions that you mentioned... hallucinations. Some people just cannot take that medicine. Make sure your grandmother advises her doctor about this reaction. She could end up hurting herself some day by thinking something is there and it isn't. Let me know how she's doing, ok??

I have taken Ambien for 8 years. About 5 years ago I tried to stop it and I saw fans everywhere, yes , fans. I called the doctor at 2 am and she told me to go take my ambien that I would have to wean off of it. I was on 15mgs per night. I now am trying to get off ambien by slowly weaning down. banne

hallucinaate big time on it i took 20mg one night trying to get high on it in my nieve days before i matured and i tripped big time seen a miniture fair in my room populated by dwarfs then i passed out it was fun to be hoenst to you but i dont take this med mcuh once in a long while i have some old pills left but i take them when i havent got any of my klonopin and i use 20mgs at night time with no problem now and im not dependant on it

I discovered the hallucinogenic effects of this drug by accident one day. I took it to get some sleep after one long night of heavy partying. Momentarily not even a minute (yes it hit me that fast) My brain went on a trip for about 8 hrs, the things I saw wasn't even compared to the other substances I tried like (Acid and shrooms) I saw: little people coming from under the couch and shaking the couch in the air... I saw green men walking around the room,.I went intoo the bathroom and saw a spider wed appear right out of the wall. wow!!!

I saw some crazy stuff..It made me wonder if it opened up my 3rd eye, because I saw what looked like ghosts all around me, even in the dark.

but been awhile and I'm through w messing w that shit!! to answer your question.. YeS!! its is a very very hallucinogenic drug, especially when mixed with other hallucinogenic drugs like (mdma ) ..

Hi Irish daughter,
Ambien is an hypnotic. Yet by all the responses you've gotten, the hallucinagenic properties of this med are evident! Many people do odd things whilst taking Ambien, such as sleep driving, eating, or talking on the phone, and never recall that they have done these things.
Please call your mum's doc about what she is experiencing, very unpleasant indeed!
