Hey sc333,
Sonata should work within an hour after taking it. Its absorption is decreased by taking it after a heavy, high-fat meal so best to take on an empty stomach or after a light snack immediately before you retire.
I do hope it works better tonight. If not, you may need to give your doctor a call and let him/her know you are not responding to the medication as planned.
Best wishes,
Laurie

I will try that tonight. Thank you. I felt so drugged today (from the drug and no sleep) so after a day trip I came home and took a 3 hour nap. I know that is a no-no. I still felt drugged and clumsy. I broke a glass so I stopped everything I was doing until it passed. I took my regular meds about an hour ago and I am waiting until I am more tired and will do as you did. It may not work perfectly with my routine today but I dont feel like giving up so quickly as I did earlier. Thanks again!
Sure let me know how it worked :)
Can I take another med with this to try and sleep? Sometimes I take 1 mg of Klonopin to help me before the sonata. Tonight I do not feel that aweful drugged feeling. I just want to go to sleep. Cathleen I did what you said. I took 1 and got right in bed then 4 hours later took the other and did the same thing. I am so tempted to try it but cautious bc it is new to me again. Believe me, no matter how I feel... no nap for me today
Do you mean you took 1 then stayed awake until taking the 2? Did you fall asleep at all last night? I'm so sorry. Sonata always worked for me right away, and I was someone who would stare at the ceiling for hours as a kid and toss and turn as an adult. It's funny, it wasn't until way into my 20's before I found out it wasn't normal to take an hour or more to fall asleep!!
I don't take a sleep aid now only because I take so much for anxiety and depression (every bottle says "may cause drowsiness") that I fall asleep now, finally after so many years. Ask your pharmasist or dc about the Klonopin before the Sonata. It's something I used to do (not right before bed but in the evening), but please ask first.
I hope you get some much needed rest. Cathleen
No more Sonata for me. I went to sleep for a few hours but I did not realize how groggy I was last night and today has been as bad. I have felt agitated and depressed and just out of sorts. I have been working so hard to oversome other issues related to to the PTSD, I do not care for the others. I did call the pharmacist and she reccomends not taking any more and calling my P on Monday. I hope he will let me try the Prosom. In the meantime, this experience has taught me that not sleeping well is better than sleeping a little and having bad side effects. I appreciate all the support!
I'm sorry I wasn't really that helpful. And sleep is around the corner :)
No need... Sometimes experience is the best teacher of all but to have others that understand and also have ideas... that is sweet. Im feeling upbeat right now and trying not to be so wired about if I sleep tonight or not. I do appreciate the feedback.
That reminds me! At the height of my insomnia when I couldn't take it anymore I decided (like you) to give up and day "whatever, if I get 1 good hour I'll be happy" and I took all the clocks out of my room. Even if I couldn't see them I would count the ticks.
This did not rid me of insomnia but I was less stressed about it and I did get more sleep as a result. Hope this helps I know the torture of not sleeping. Cathleen
Thanks Cathleen~Can you private message me sometime. I cant seem to remember how to do it. Haha
Sc333 I sent you a pm
how are you doing now? My insurance made me get a scrip for Sonata before they will pay for the Rozarem ... I have only taken one of the Sonata so I can't help much ... I'm seem to like the Rozarem ... most nights ... only have 10 pills so I'm about 85% happy with it ... but I have to take it an hour before bed for it to help me ... but that's just me ... hope you're getting some rest :)
