Is it advisable to use the Pentasa Suppositories when I have a loose bowel and am passing blood. Also, I have weak stomach, which is easily upset, causing cramps. The tablet and soluble Mesazaline does no agree with me, and causes more blood loss. Should I take a risk and use it?

Is you blood bright red or dark. Bright red could be coming from hemorroids. Do not stop taking any med without consulting the Doctor believe me I have done that and it does not pay just call and ask and put your mind at ease. If you already have GI problems worrying will only escalate your problems. Good Luck . I am sure you probablly know that Dark blood is coming from higher up in your GI track and you really should contact your doc about this.

Thanks for your reply to my question regarding the Pentasa. Just managed to sort out my email problems.
On the leaflet within the drug it specifies that should a patient suffer any bad problems with Indomethacin, then do not use this drug.
As my present problems stem from the use of 'Indocid' which was responsible for me almost losing my life in 1977, I am very wary of using this drug Pentasa, along with Mesalazine, for each time I have used the Mesalazine I have experienced severe diarrhoea, bleeding and sometimes sever pain in the bowel area. Also, the use of Indocid provoked the bowel instead of easing the problems which also lead to bleeding.

When the Indocid was given in Aug; 1977, I had informed the medical team at the hospital that I had a haemorrhoid plus I'd suffered from IBS almost all of my life, yet they still used this Indocid which was clearly labeled it should not be used under these circumstances. Therefore, I am nervous about the use of Pentasa when such instructions are given. With the damage caused a few decades ago, I have had to tolerate many side effects from the Indocid which are incurable, and I am not keen on tempting fate withe the Pentasa.
A year past July, I decided to come off all of my tablets when I ended up in A&E, choking, and the very cross specialist explained to my son that the five drugs I was taking for various ailments brought on through side effects of other drugs, were responsible for my bad experience. Since then, the trouble I have had with the bowel, is the first time I have had any bother. The blood pressure and inflamation of the osophagus that troubled me badly has been stable throughout, with no other ailments apart from the side effects caused in 1977/9 through the Indocid.
I have a very patient doctor and also a very patient specialist, but I am still very concerne about this drug they suggest. However, I did ask for and have used the Predfoam for a while, which I have used off and on since about 1980.
This I find is a very good medication and has cleared up the problem, which I hope will be for a long term. The only problem I find with this drug is its function, which I find varies between each container. Whereas it states a canister supplies 14 doses, I have never been able to use more than six out of all the times I have used it. This is the fault of the manufacturer, but I am sure the doctors believe it is patient misuse of the drug. I have written to the manufacturers again ( which I have done a number of times during the 30 years or so since I began to use it) but again I have had no reply. I am considering contacting the Government Minister who allows this company to take NHS money, yet the drug is failing in the functions.
I do hope my problem of severe bleeding will not return, and that I may begin to enjoy what is left of my life.
Once again, thank you for your reply.
