Hi, the best description of abilify is by this website. If you type it in the search box at the top of the site it will provide you with a lot of information about how it works, how to take it, what to avoid, side effects, etc... Unfortunately, it has been reported to cause weight gain. I haven't used it myself but know of people that have used it quite successfully. Hopefully you will get responses from the community here from people that are/have used it

Hey brittuwhni,
I have taken Abilify (15mgs) for many years with continued success. It has been reported to cause weight gain, but I have lost weight over the past few months with dieting and haven't had any trouble. I have had no side effects from this med and would highly recommend it. If you have any questions, would be happy to help anyway I can.
Best wishes,
Laurie

its scary when they change your med or increase it im sensitive to high mg so i need to be weened on meds

Brittuwhni,
Another option you have is to contact the Merck Patient Assistance Program. Merck is the manufacturer of Saphris and they offer help to people who qualify for assistance. You can call1-800-727-5400 and see if they can help you. Just thought you might want to try rather than switch medications altogether.

Hi,
I gained almost 40 pounds when I was taking Abilify for 10 months. The antipsychotic worked well in treating my Bipolar Type 1 & kept me more alert,-but my doctor and I were also wondering if the Abilify was raising my blood sugar. I am now on Geodon, and am switching to Latuda.
There are a number of antipsycotics around, some of which are also mood stabilizers. If you're worried about gaining weight, talk about your options with a good doctor.
Hope this helps,
LifeOnThePharm
