nightarcher... pain. I have seen 8 doctors now and have been told that Lupron is the only option. I am 21 years old and feeling a little lost. Are there any other treatment options that I'm not being told about besides Lupron, IUDs or birth control pills? I'm getting pretty desperate and I'm willing to try just about anything, any advice would be greatly appreciated
I'm looking for an alternitive to Lupron for endometriosis?

thank you for the list of other medications and suggestions. i just noticed that somehow the top half of my question was deleted. what i meant to say was that i have had a laperoscopy which did remove some of the endo but did not help the pain. have seen several reproductive endocrinologists and they've all been saying the same thing. Lupron. the birth control hormone has failed and i'm currently experiencing too much inflammation to implant in IUD. I started the Lupron injection today so hopefully i don't have too many side effects.

I wish you luck. I had six months of lupron shots when I was 19 yrs old for endo Which was almost 13 yrs ago. I was in unbearable pain each month. The lupron stop my pain. But destored my thyroid which I now have only 10% function left and I have terrible arthritis in my hands and wrists. I traded one pain for another. The birth control pills I was on for 9 yrs after the lupron wore off destroyed my liver and I almost died from liver failure before my doctors figured it out. Turns out I'm allergic to birth control pills. I only remember hot flashes and mood swings while on the lupron. Now my endometriosis is back worse than ever after going off the pill to save my liver. I had surgery a month ago. I was told I need a hysterectomy or menopause but I already had the recommended six months in a lifetime of lupron and I'm allergic to birth control pills. I'm 32, never married, no kids but I wanted to start having kids in the next 2-3 yrs. This is ruining my plans.

In this case, she would have a shot once a month of depo lupron and it would throw her into chemical menopause. I did it, and understand her concern. It think it is a much stronger shot than the bc shot, it was $600 per shot about 16 years ago. Marrs, I know you have seen 8 doctors, is the pain the problem or what. I would see another doctor, if you don't want to take the lupron. Are you a candidate for surgery for this, surgery is another option, birth control pills might help somewhat.
Sorry Brrmars, meant for poster about suggestions, not really awake yet. I just saw the concern about lupron and totally understand it, was in hurry to answer. Maso posted a link for other meds, he is great at finding that kind of stuff, if it were me, I would find a super specialist for the possible surgery, and try any other meds again before I absolutely started the lupron. For some people, it is a breeze, for others, it is a difficult regimen to do.
