And it is not working for the despression or the fibromyalgia. I go to the dr tomorrow & was thinking of asking about savella or the pharmacist suggested pamelor..does anyone have any suggestions as to whether one of these might work better. I am so tired of hurting. I also take xanaflex when needed.

Hi,
I have been on cymbalta for years and it has definitely helped my depression and pain, but everyone is different. I have a friend that takes savella for her fibro and has had much success with it. My sister takes neurontin (gabapentin) for her fibro and feels that it is working for her. How long have you been on the cymbalta? It takes weeks for medication to build up in your system enough to work. It can't hurt to discuss your options with your doctor. Your doctor should be able to evaluate the situation and make the best choice for you.
Good luck and let me know how it goes,
Laurie

I was put on Cymbalta in Oct.2010. It was hard for me to tell if it was working. I began to have more depression and my mind felt unclear. I have stopped Cymbalta and just started Savella. My brain is more clear. Although it is a bit early to truely say, yes, Savella is working, I do feel better. Of course we have also had some warmer days. The cold kills me.
Good luck-
Jfame.

First, you have to say how long that you have been on Cymbalta. There are protocols now for people with fibro. THANK GOODNESS. In the 90's, you were considered a drug seeker or mentally sick. I went through the entire thing with my husband too. we almost got divorced. Now they admit, gee maybe all these women, and some men have all the SAME symptoms, now we can be heros. :-) Flexeril is the muscle relaxer of choice instead of xanaflex. I couldn't tolerate Flerxeril, and I was on Xanaflex for a long time. They have just come out with a med called Amrix which comes in 15 or 30 mg. You take it once each day at about 7-8 PM. This is flexeril slow acting. I started on the 30 mg, and now take 15. What a difference. Better than Xanaflex. When I really hurt, I just take the 30mg once in a while. The third medication that you must look into is either Lyrica, or gabapentin (neurontin). That takes care of nerve pain.

I also take Savella (after trying Lyrica, which was ineffective for me) - Savella has been a God-send for me. The main relief for me was from the dreaded "fibro fog"... it does help with some of the other symptoms, but like many others, I take pain meds and supplements on top of the Savella just to function. I should also note that the combination of Savella & Flexeril is what keeps me moving - I tried to stop taking the Flexeril at one point because I thought it had stopped working: BIG mistake! I went right back on it & at least got my pain back to a semi-manageable level. The cold also kicks my keister...
