Yes, they are same. Mononessa and Ortho-tricyclen have the same active ingredients. They are made by different drug companies. See http://www.drugs.com/mtm/mononessa.html
I have just realised that although they contain the same active ingredients, the strengths of the tablets vary. You will still be protected if you substitute the one tablet but do not substitute anymore.
