You should avoid alcohol while taking tramadol. Alcohol interacts with the medication, potentially increasing the risk of serious side effects, such as extreme drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing, seizures, pass out.-

I don't know about serious side effects but I know it made me sick! I only had a few beers one night while taking Tramadol and it made me very sick.
