And if this went away with continued use? I was on 8 mcg once a day with no results for one week, then twice a day for 2 weeks with no results. I felt some heaviness in my chest but then it seemed to go away. Now I am on 24 mcg 2x a day. Took about a week, but I've been pooping like crazy now for a day. (Was constipated for a whole week.) But since I've been on the high dose, the heaviness is very uncomfortable, and the body aches are not good, and I also sometimes get a slight headache. So could someone tell me if this is going to get better? I'm not sure that I would rather be constipated at this point.

So I will answer for myself. I decided that since I never get nauseated from the Amitiza, I would try to take it before bed with an activia yogurt or a granola bar. I did that and I never felt the chest heaviness or body aches. I even woke up an hour after going to bed and I still didn't have any of the side effects. I've also decided to try it just at night and not do the day time dose. I was going a little too much over the last couple of days. I think with some adjustments this is going to be a very good drug to treat my severe chronic constipation.

Activia yogurt, well yogurt in general, has acidophilus in it. Acitivia adds more probiotics to their yogurt and what ever else for your gut. Amitiza and probiotics should not be taken together. This is one of the first things my doc. told me.
What is the reasoning behind not combining the two?
Probiotics are especially important for healthy gut 'flora'. I checked again with my pharmacist and she said too, take the probiotic 1hr b 4 or 2hrs after, as you would with an antibiotic. Probiotics and acidophilous are usually in the same pill you take with a meal 1x daily. Mine are kept in the fridge. Dr. took me off amitiza bc of side effects and no bowel movement in about 7 days. Had to drink the gatorade and miralax mix (eeiiww). gooduck!
I looked at my probiotic, "Jarrow Dophilus" Has I think 6 different strains and 3.4 billion per cap.
Well that makes sense to take it like that. So I have stopped taking the amitiza too. It was working great for 1 month. Then it just totally stopped working. I didn't have any movement for a week. I broke down and took 2 lax. Nothing. Next day 2 more. Nothing. The 3 lax. And after 10 days of no bm. I finally went. But then the next day I'm back to being cinstipated and for another week no bm. I was still on amitiza at this point. But decided that since it wasn't working I wasn't gonna keep taking it. So my dr had me get a motility test performed. No results yet. But in the mean time I still can't go. I was wondering what tests your dr had done to get to the bottom of your constipation? And does the probiotics actually help you?
Have they checked your gallbladder? I ask because my wife had no problems other than constipation ofr a month or so. We finally had to take her to the ER one night. They checked her gallbladder and immedietley admitted her and removed it. It had gotten so bad that the gallbladder had attached itslf to her stomach wall and she had no other symptoms other than a month or so of constipation. Many people think these type of conditions are ... well "funny". After seeing her suffer from something as simple (I thought) as consipation, I have sympathy for you and hope you do fine. I know when I was in the Army we would take things to make us constipated for three or four days. Young and stupid is all I can say.
