I was prescribed Vagifem, but not sure I want to pick it up. I was told I have vaginal dryness,?

I used Vagifem last year... same thing..only had problems with sex. Unlike before the menapause, I enjoyed it until penetration..nightmare. I even began to think I have some kind of growth. The vagifem really worked In fact I only needed to use it once every 2 weeks! But after a few months felt a bit concerned..and wondered if I was getting symptoms..( moodiness, bad temper) because I was taking it at 2weekly gaps instead of regularly each week at least - it definately got into my system a little even though they say it doesnt and the doctor argued it couldnt..but websites say that of course it does. Anyway to get a regular weekly dose, instead of 2 weekly which is all I needed, the doctor suggested I halve the tablet... you aren't supposed to take them out of the applicator (re infection).

Tonight I have just discovered new info online on American site suggesting you take the LOWEST DOSE POSSIBLE TO START WITH..and sure enough ..I just checked my stuff(which I havent used for a year... relationship broke up then), and I discover I was using the 25mcg dose when the site recommends the lower dose of 10 mcg... and only the higher IF need. I could be saving the NHS money AND getting a smaller dose REGULARLY each week Without taking them out and CUTTING THEM as the doc suggested. ridiculous... I have a good degree in biochemistry..and I'm gobsmacked at the negligent way this is dealt with. I'm in between relationships with little confidence to start one because this treatment - which could be really good - has been completely mismanaged! Im going to go and ask the chemist if they do a smaller dose. I seem to remember though that I had that conversation and thats why halving it was suggested... God, I hope Im wrong there.
What dosage did you get... 25mcg pessaries or 10mcg. ?

sorry havent been able to reply before now.
Probably about the same age then. I remember thinking it was emotional etc because we lived apart..and Id had back injuries when we lived near each other.and so less sex, which didnt help with dryness (use it or lose it they told me)..I made all sorts of excuses for why I had dryness but my sister whod had a hysterectomy and was happily on HRT kept telling me to go and get something. I did eventually. The vagifem does work. I just think I was given the higher dose instead of the smaller, which would have suited better.

You should give it a go and see the difference - just make sure yuo have the 10mcg dosage. I found on a website a few months ago that Vagifem was so far proving to be one of the best things for vaginal dryness, as there had been no real health problems compared to other hormonal creams so far used... and it is only local (even if a small amount gets into system)... other people are taking it orally as HRT!! Keep your options open, and at least think of it as there if everything else fails... it might keep your spirits up.
And dont put off trying it until the relationship has been affected... like I did!
Go and get the prescription!
