I was given Elavil by my Dr. to treat back pain. Is this correct?

I can not take narcotics so he said this might help.

Elavil is a drug called a tricyclic antidepressant. It may relax you and help some with sleep thus making it a little easier to deal with the back pain. But I don't see the elavil itself doing much for pain. It's just to relax you more than anything.

Elavil... Yes, it will calm you down so your can relax. Thus it will give your body a chance to heal.
