I took 20mg of metadate and vomited about 15 minutes later due to an uncontrollable reflex after swallowing a gulp of spoiled milk. Will the medication still take affect my system the way it should or do I need to take another dose?

It is hard to determine whether you got the dose or whether you should take another dose.
Both Metadate CD and ER are controlled release formulations and would not have disintegrated to allow for absorption of the medication.
Metadate CD is in capsule form and if you are taking this then you could have lost some granules when you vomited and hence would not get the required dose.
Metadate ER is in tablet form and it would have been highly unlikely for it to disintegrate to release all the medicine. So if you didn't vomit out the tablet you would mostly likely get most of the dose.
