I have been on suboxone for nine months now. My husband and I were trying to get pregnant and I advised my clinic of the same. A worker there told me if I got pregnant they would take me off of suboxone and I would have to go on methadone. I advised her that I absolutely did not want to take methadone and was hoping I could go on subutex. The clinic discussed it and said if I signed a waiver I could, so hubby and I continued with our "mission." I was recently told they are taking it off the market except for people in the hospital. Now I think I may be pregnant and I am really worried...

Subutex is better for moms to be and as far as I know, there are NO plans to take it off the market, not sure why the clinic told you that or that you should be switched to methadone. You may want to find a subs dr who knows how to treat a mom to be, it may mean more expense, but would be better than dealing with a clinic. Congrats. Patti

I havent heard anything about them taking it off the market. I have wondered how they handle someone pregnant though. I do know someone that was taking methadone during her pregnancy and since the baby was born addicted they had to put her on a small amount and wean her off. I do know that the poor baby cried alot during her first 6 months but Im happy to say she is off of it and doing wonderful. The drs didnt want to take the mother off of methadone while she was pregnant for fear or miscarriage. Congrats on baby and good luck I would really like to know how your dr handles this in case im ever pregnant again.

Please do not start methadone in place of sub! I was on methadone for my whole pregnancy and it was the worst thing for me AND the baby. She was in the hospital for 3 months detoxing off methadone. I have since been on and off suboxone and it was much easier coming off suboxone. I promise you methadone detox is harder. Also I know someone who just had a baby on suboxone and the baby so far (3 weeks old) has had zero withdrawl symptoms! I have been reading that if you are on sub and pregnant that it is better to switch to subutex.

I just read your comment about getting you Sub from a Clinic. I am in Los Angeles area & would like to know if anyone knows of a clinic as to where I can go to get my prescription & is it cheaper to go thru a clinic than a personal Dr.Also is there anywhere that I can go to where I can get the Sub cheaper than at a Pharmacy as I was just ladi off work & do not have any health insurance. I was just wondering if there is a free clinic that has Dr.s that are qualified to give this medication out. Mose clinics that i have been to the Dr.s do not even know about the Subutex. Please any suggestion will help. One more thing has anyone ever tried going to a methadone clinic to get the Sub?
