that niacin can help with anxiety and depression? I just found that out on a site i was reading up on.
Niacin is vitamin B-3, one of the water soluble B-complex vitamins. One of niacin's unique properties is its ability to help you naturally relax and get to sleep more rapidly at night. And it is well established that niacin helps reduce harmful cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. Abram Hoffer, M.D., Ph.D. explains: "Niacin is one of the best substances for elevating high density lipoprotein cholesterol (the "good cholesterol) and so decreases the ratio of the total cholesterol over high density cholesterol."
Another niacin feature is its ability to greatly reduce anxiety and depression.
just thought i would paste that and share for anyone who didnt know this:) oh and it does cause flushing(redness of the skin and itching, but it doesnt last long, and after you take it for awhile that goes away, and they say to slowly up your dose and its best to take it after you eat or with a small snack)

Since taking Niacin it can cause a hot flash feeling. That is why I suggest Niacin SR. The SR is slow release and you do not get that hot rush.
Niacin SR is also good of arthritis symptoms.

Teal, At your suggestion,I have started taking Vit. D - 1,000 iu -for my depression. I can't believe how much better I feel. I have also started taking B complex and Niacin. Thank you so much for your input. I think that the doctors should have their patients on D regardless of their meds.

Thanks for the info. on Niacin- I had no idea. I used to take xanax, but I abused it. I have also been (thru the years) on several different anti- depressants. I went to rehab for 6 months for alcohol & drugs. Suffice it to say that I had been self- medicating for @ least 20 yrs.( I'm 36). I just made an appt. to see what can be done for my depression, anxiety, & add/adhd. I'm going back to school this month & am scared to death b/c I have no attention- span, Get bored EASILY, can't sit still, can't organize, or complete any kind of task, am a horrible listener, & constantly interrupt people! Since being back from rehab I have relapsed a few times & haven't been to an AA mtg. in weeks b/c a.) I get anxious & nervous just going to them, & b.) I believe mtgs. just aren't helpful enough.
