I have taken Trazodone on and off in the past. No I do not think that the side effects get any better. When I did take it I could not function for half of the day. Everything that I did was in slow motion. I slept well but didn't like getting up in the morning which I also get up at 6am. My Doctor would tell Me to take it at 9:00Pm, but that still didn't work. So good luck!

Hi renmill,
That was one of my start up side effects as well, I started with 100 mg at night a few years ago. It took a week before it went away. I had the added bonus of vision disturbances/Palinopsia in the AM.
When my Pdoc stepped up the dosage to 150mg I had the hangover again but only for a day or two.
If it still bugs you talk with your Doc.

It will take a while for your body to adjust to the med. Taking it off and on will make it harder to adjust too. I took mine about 30 min before I went to bed. I was started out on 50mg. and was increased up to 150mg as it was what it took to help me. I was about 5 weeks getting used to it. I also found I needed to eat something before I took it.It keep me from feeling nauseated.

I have been taking trazodone for several years for help with sleep. I am also
on zoloft and lisinopril for high blood pressure. At first the trazodone made me
groggy when I first woke up. After a short time that side effect went away.
It does however tend to elevate blood pressure, so now I have been prescribed
clonidine as well. I am currently out of trazodone and I am thinking of discontinuing due to my blood pressure. It is too soon to tell if the clonidine alone will be enough, but it is also for my blood pressure. Hope this answers your question in part.
