If this is the first cycle of the medication, it is still trying to regulate your hormones. Make sure you take it as close to 24 hours apart as possible, i.e. the same time everyday or night. The traveling may have made you cycle worse, although doctors usually won't admit that it can happen. The bleeding should lessen soon and most birth control pills shorten the time of the period and how much bleeding there is. If it is really bothering you, call your doctor and let them know to see if they want to change the medication. It can take up to 3 months for this to completely regulate the bleeding, and for side effects to go away.

Thank You. I will monitor for a couple of cycles more. How long is too long if the heavy menstruation persists. I have never experience such cramp over the last 25 years of menstrual cycles.
If you are thru with the first pack including the inactives and have started the second pack and are thru with the first week and are still having bleeding, call the doctor. Most hormones of any type take 3 months to completely regulate and level out, even though they say you are safe after the first week on them. Replacement hormones and birth control pills both can both take this long and I think thyroid medicine can too. Only you know how bad you are cramping and bleeding, if you are worried or feel ill, call the doctor. Hope it is better soon.
