i dislike it immensely and think I have made a big mistake. I want to get off of it immediately but need to know if I will have major withdrawals, which is not a possibility for mr. I have 120 vicodin. Can I just take the vicodin so I won't withdraw from the methadone?

If you were taking the vicodin or another opiate before the methadone, then if you just stop the methadone you will experience withdrawals. If you were not taking any opiates before you started the methadone, then you should be able to taper off the methadone fairly quickly and be alright. If you were taking opiates before the methadone, then you'll need to take longer to taper off the methadone as your body is use to the having an opiate in its system. Without knowing your history of opiate use, it is difficult to suggest a taper plan.
If you could please give a little more info, would be able to help further. If you just switch to the vicodin then you'll have to taper from it to avoid the withdrawals, so I would just taper from the methadone and be done with it un less of course you are not looking to get off the opiates and still want the pain control of the vicodin. Then you'll just need to switch over at the right conversion.

Thanks for your reply. I have been taking vicodin 10/325 for several years - 4 to 5 a day. I ran out of them 5 days early and thought I could take methadone until I got my new prescription. I didn't realize it was a long term treatment and so difficult to get off of. I started methadone 20 mgs two weeks ago. The next day I went up to 25 mg and the next day 30 mg for 8 days then down to 20 for a day and now 17 mg for the last 3-4 days. Can I jus stop the methadone and take vicodin for the methadone withdrawals? Would I have to take a crazy amount of vicodin bc that makes me nervous.. I wish I never started methadone and this has been a wake up call that I have a problem. I would rather wean myself off the vicodin myself than add another addiction.
If you are certain that you want to switch back to vicodin, I would wean down to 10 mg then switch back to the vicodin. 17mgs of methadone is approximately equal to 25 mgs of hydrocodone, the opiate in vicodin. Your transition back to vicodon and then weaning off should be relatively smooth.
