I was recently prescribed Imitrex for migraines and I am a little afraid to take them. Any opinion? Good or bad?

I spoke to my Dr. about this compazine that he prescribed. He said due to my high blood pressure I could not take the imitrex. He said he perscribes compazine for migraines because of that. I am still not sure. On everything that I have read no of the research that I have done has said that it helps with migrains, Have you heard of that or should I seek another doctors advice?

Sorry it took me so long to answer. I'm not sure what to tell you. If he's dead-set on giving you the compazine, then I think he's doing it just to alleviate any nausea and vomiting you might be getting from the migraines. Have you asked him about Maxalt (rizatriptan)? It is another anti-migraine medication. However, it does not prevent or reduce the number of migraines you'll get--- it simply stops them once they start. Just a thought. Good luck and let me know what happens.

I went to the doctors with double vision and headaches. The doctor prescribed me compazine. Last night I had a whopping migraine (I do have a history of periodic migraines) and the compazine did not touch it. I appreciate reading your comments because now I am contacting MY doctor and questioning the one that prescribed this to me.
