it sounds like you have things under control and i commend you for doing so well, keep it up and as long as your not having bad withdrawls i would say keep doing what your doing as long as your body and mind can handel it without the bad side effects that go with the weaning process.. Good luck my friend.. Mick

Thanks for answering me. My doctor is absolutely against me stopping my pain medicine and now i know why. My pain is beyond extreme now. I;ve been taking these pain meds for 26 years. Closed head injury (fractured skull) I think I will have to keep taking them , but at least now I know I can stop if my head ever gets better
So are you saying, that you are going to continue with your pain meds? Were you afraid of being addicted? There is a thing called tolerance to meds where you have to have them steadily increasded instead of being addicted you become tolerant of that particular dose. Sounds like you need your meds according to your doctor & I would follow his advice, Just my thoughts...
yeah but it sounds like he does'nt want or need them as much as he did so why keep taking pills if he does'nt want to? thats my point.. it sounds like he wants to be off the pain meds to me.. Mickey
thank you very much Mary , I have a appt tomorrow with my doctor , he is not very happy with me. I want to explain how I came to be on these meds , Car accident in 1984 left me with a closed head injury (fractured Skull) I was in a coma for almost 6 months. I mostly just wanted to see if I could beat the addiction and i have. No pain pills since 11am yesterday and i feel good (all except the horrible pain in my head)
Are you saying you just stopped using a 100 mcg fentanyl patch and are only using Percocet now? That you didn't slowly decrease in dose off the 100 mcg patch? If so, you are doing incredibly well. Most folks decrease by 12 mcg or, at the most, 25 mcgs at a time to give their bodies time to adjust. If you've done that and all you have is a bad headache - you are doing fantastic. I do agree with you - these are powerful meds and you need to challenge once in awhile the need to still be on them. If you do, then you deal with that but I think your doctor should be supportive of your wanting to try. Though I can see your doctor not wanting you to stop a 100 mcg patch all at once - that is a lot for your body to go through. Best wishes to you -
yes i stopped the patch all together and started only taking a percocet 10-325 for 1 full day , then i tokk 5-325s for 2 days friday i cut the 5-325s in half and saturday i was done. My stomach is a little bothersome but definately tolerable. I'm in horrible pain in my just like before i started the meds. I have a doctors appt tomorrow ( he is really mad at me) I'm , but I'm trying to make him understand I just wanted to know I could do it. My 2 daughters have addiction issues and I just had to show them how "not easy" but steadfast committment anyone can do it. I am in control of my own life. I did it in 4 days and I went to work today and had a very productive day. I would recommend this method for getting off opiates , but I do understand how dangerous it is to just stop using Fentynal patches and would very much advise seeking the advise of your doctor. Mine wasnt real supportive , but I felt good about what I was doing. Thank you again for all your advise and comments and I look forward to reading even more from you.
Wow - you are really doing great. It took me 3 months to go from 125 mcg to 50 mcg - withdrawal throughout the entire time. Then I was in so much pain I was screaming all the time, so I went on Methadone. I would say if you are only having a severe headache (and I can imagine how severe that headache is) that you're ok. Most likely the headache will diminish over time and you will be free of all the side effects of this powerful drug. Take good care -
do you want to be off the pain meds my friend? not sure if i gave you the right info or not but you should make the choice not your doctor! good luck, Mick...
i cant stay off the meds as my head pain will never stop , just wanted to prove to myself that i could do it. really stupid i know , but i have read some real horror stories on this site about folks trying to get off fentynal patches , but 4 me it went very smooth. I have not taken any pain meds since yesterday and have no real withdraw symtoms (horrible head pain like before i started the pain management) i have been on these 100mcg patches for 26 years so u can only imagine what i mean when i say my life revolved around theses patches and perc 10s and perc 5s. im clean now and if i could cut my friggen head off i would feel great
You are very much the exception unfortunately - most people have a terrible time getting off the opiates. One thought though - how do you know your head pain isn't from you detoxing off the patch? Your body has just gone through a very traumatic change and it will take time for it to balance itself. Incredible headaches are known to happen during withdrawal and detoxing. If you can function, if you can stick it out a bit longer you just might find that the head pain will resolve also. At the bare minimum you would need a much lower dose of meds when you start back up. You have proved you can get off of these and you have done so in an amazing way. Would that it be that easy for the rest of us! -
I went to the doctor and got another MRI he just wanted to prove to me that my head pain was real and irreversable. But what i did gain by detoxing the way I did , I was able to lower my tolerance back down some and cut pain meds almost in half. I feel much better now, thank you all very much for taking your time to share your thoughts and experiences with me , it was very helpful
