However, my cheeks are redder and bumpier and occasionally itchy now. They're definitely drier so I'm going to start using a lotion with them. Is this normal?

Yes, the most common side effects of Aczone are dryness, redness, oiliness and peeling. Speak to your dermatologist if these effects are bothering you.
It is best not to use any other products on your skin without talking to your doctor first as many products will irritate and make the skin worse.
