I am 67 and on the medicare drug plan. The extreme cost of this drug puts me into the doughnut hole within a few months and then I have to pay the full cost myself. It is going to help a lot when the generic version is released. My life quality would be severly hampered without maxalt. Susan

The FDA has issued tentative approval to a generic Maxalt but this will not be available until the patent protection for Maxalt expires around June 2012.

Thank you for your answer. I am surprised at another 2 1/2 years before the generic as I thought the drug companies had patent protection for only 7 years. I've been using maxalt at least that long, and thought this would be the year for the generic. Again, thanks for your response.
