I have systemic lupus erythematosus and have just stared taking plaquenil?

Plaquenil has good and bad effect. I have Plaquenil toxicity. I took it for over ten years and it was given at a dose that was too much for my weight.Have your eyes checked every few months. I can not drive, see glossy photos, or different between certain colors.

You should look up withdrawal from plaquinel online. The withdrawal from this medication is hell if you have to stop taking it like I had to because I am pregnant. Some symptoms I had were, major flare in lupus symptoms, Nausea, vomitting, vasculitis, agression I wanted to kill everyone, I could bearly take it I almost ended up in the emergency room. Some people do end up hospitalized during withdrawal of this medication. Make sure you look up any medication you take and its withdrawal symptoms. It was to late by the time I figured out how bad the withdrawal would be. If you just started taking it you probablly just found out you have lupus, you will find out very soon just how bad lupus can be. I also developed a realy bad life threatening merca infection after i started taking plaquinel.

Taking plaquenil didn't seem to help me with the symptoms of lupus. I experienced severe abdominal pain even after cutting the dose in half & taking it only with a full stomach. I've had many visual changes but do have frequent eye exams. I have chosen to not continue it because I personally have not experienced the benefit of taking it. My suggestion is you really research the medication & weigh the pros & cons for yourself as plaquenil does seem to help some people with SLE. Best of everything to you...

Plaquenil can be very helpful with SLE. You should get regular eye exams. As with any medication you should not stop taking it suddenly. I have been taking it for over 6 years and it has worked great for me. The only side effects I've had is dry mouth and upset stomach. Take it with food and keep hard candy near by and you'll be fine!
