I usually make it three days. I had seven days on the 10th but then I blew it. I don't even want to get out of bed in the mornings is I don't have cigarettes. I have promised my whole family, my best friend and her dog I would never smoke another cigarette. I am on antidepressants so I don't get why I don't want to get up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Joining this group is the first time I have ever used a support group and I sure hope it helps. Since I have promised everyone and their dog.
I have quit smoking today Nov. 12th. I have tried many, many times?

Do you want to go cold turkey? If you want to that's fine. If you need help then there are medicines available. Please see link below.

I am going to begin Chantix next week... waiting for the 'script to be ready. I found this site looking up info regarding the "golden" drug (Chantix) and I think it will work. I just felt a connection with this group and like you made promises to my youngest that I would quit smoking. I take Xanax and that helps so much for taking the edge off (anxiousness, etc.). I must quit smoking because I have to have several surgeries and the surgeon is going to give me a nicotine test to make sure I have quit. I love to smoke but it's time to quit and I just have a really strong feeling that this drug is IT. I don't know what antidepressants you are on, but I tried several and Xanax has been the best one for me... no side effects and it works very well.
janetcole, thank you for answering my question. However, I keep relapsing,I really thought making all of those promises would keep me from smoking. I have justified my promises by telling myself I promised never to buy a pack of cigarettes again, and I haven't. However, I have smoked other people's cigarettes. Three different times I have done this, today being one of them. It is so hard, I take two different antidepressants. But I also take clonapin which is in the same catagory as Xanax, and yes it does help take the edge off. But when I get around my friends who smoke, I just can't seem to be strong enough not to ask for one. I can't afford Chantix, I guess I really need to do the patches. Best of luck to you on both your surgeries and quitting smoking. After your surgery don't even smoke one cigarette no matter what! Or you will find it easier to slowly start smoking again. I am really ashamed of myself because really I broke all those promises I made.
My problem as well... the cost of the 'script... but Phizer has resources for people who don't make very much income (and there are guidelines to qualify) and for people who lost their job a/o January 1, 2009, who are underinsured, who have no insurance coverage, etc. I have a phone number for you... you can take it for what it's worth... #866-706-2400 (it's called Phizer MAINTAIN). I called the American Lung Association for help and in less than 24 hours, I received a large envelope w/lots of info and a $30 coupon for the Chantix. I got nothing to loose... I'm going to fill out the Phizer questionnaire to see since I haven't been working for almost 2 years and can't afford the meds if there isn't some resource out there available to me. My insurance company has a smoking cessation program and I am supposed to be getting a phone call next week (monday or tuesday) and they might even p/u the cost of the meds. I am w/Health Alliance.

I've tried many times too and have used all the same tactics - promises, not buying cigs but smoking other people's. I started Chantix three days ago. I'm a little concerned about the side effects but so far not too bad - just a runny nose and I'm getting relief with homeopathics for allergic runny nose. The dosage doubles tomorrow through the rest of the week then doubles again in the second week and stays at that level for 12 weeks. I love to smoke, too, and have to quit to ensure success of major dental work. If I don't quit I won't have any teeth five years from now. My dentist gave me the script and I have Aetna insurance which is covering it. The good news is that I don't really have that overwhelming urge to smoke. Out of habit, I still reach for cigs or look for them in my purse and then remind myself that I don't smoke. I took all the ashtrays out of my house and car, removed lighters, etc. and that seems to help.
well... it's been a while since i've was on... been sick... this is 3d day on Chantix and think i'm already immune to it... tomorrow is double up day for the next 3 days and hoping that it will affect me the way it did the first two days... couldn't stand the smell or taste of cigs but that has passed... just had half of the 3d one a few minutes ago. it's mind over matter for me... its really gotta matter for me to mind quitting.
Today is day 4 for me so I double up today. You know that the dosage doubles again starting the second week, right? I don't have the runny nose today so it looks like I'm getting past that. Had some nausea for a few minutes this morning but otherwise okay. I wanted to buy cigs this morning but its really cold here and I didn't want to get out in the cold. Do you live with other smokers? That makes it so much harder or has for me in the past. Hang in there.. I'm pulling for but won't judge you because I know how hard this is. :)

Hi
i know what you are going through. I was the same way. The only thing that got me out of bed was the thought of my coffee and smokes. I tried patches and commits to help me quit. They just didn't help very much. Than I tried the 4mg of nicorette gum. Boy, did that do the trick. The gum really takes the edge off like nothing else. After the first peice I never smoked again. I swear it works if you just give it a chance. Good luck

Hi
i'm on my sixth day without cigarettes. I quit once before for 5 years but in a weak moment I blew it. I thought I could have just one. Anyway, what works for me is the nicorette gum 4mg. It releases the nicotine threw the lining of your mouth and you just have no desire for a smoke. It;s the only think that worked for me. Give it a try, it really works if your motivated in tne least.

Hi
are you using the 4mgs of nicorette gum? I know that works. It stops the cravings and you don't even want a smoke. It got me to stop for 4 years. Then I blew it, like you. Thought I could have just one. Well, I'm back to using it again and it still works. Stops the cravings. Give it a try if you haven't already. Good luck

I don't think the patch gives you your best chance of success. It releases the nicotine too slowly. You never get you lift or hit as they say. The gum and lozenges work because they immediately provide a hit of the nicotine your body graves. You won't get that with the patch. Good luck whatever you choose
