I also take Maxzide at one point I was taking Minipress and had a problem with fluid retention.

Your doctor needs to be aware of your palpitations. He/she will adjust your Doxazosin dose accordingly and monitor you for cardiovascular side-effects. See http://www.drugs.com/cdi/doxazosin.html
