Do you have osteoporosis?
this can cause back & neck pain. If you are on boniva, or actonel ,or miacalcium it's possible your doctor would prescribe magnesium which you need with calcium products also & zinc. Do not take within 2 to 4 hours of acid reducers such as prilosec etc...

Hi rawhide,
Magnesium is critical to the function of nerves and muscles. It is used primarily as an antacid. But may also be used for muscle cramps and nerve function. Did your doctor do blood work to determine if you were low in magnesium? Not aware of it being used for arthritis
Is it helping your pain?
