I have tried many meds without much help for about three years. Everything started with severe migraines, then osteoarthritis, then fibromialgia. I am scared of starting a new medication, especially if it might cause depression. I am also worried that it could increase my migraines, which frequently send me to the ER. I would like to know if anyone else has the same diagnosis and if, even with fear, I should try the Lyrica?
I have just been prescribed Lyrica for osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia pain after trying many docs?

Absolutely, Lyrica is the new wonder drug especially for fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. I haven't read or heard of Lyrica causing or adding to migraines. With all the symptoms you have this might be the drug you're looking for. You also need to start at a low dose which works for some but you may need to give it a few weeks to work fully. Don't worry about asking your doctor for a increase as this is not a opiate... Dave

Hi,
I would say that since you've already tried other meds, and have constant migraines, I would give this new medication a try, and be patient some of these medications take a couple weeks or more to level out in your system before you feel the full effect of the drug. I've talked to others who are now on Lyrica and they swear by it. You have nothing to lose, and much more to gain if you discover that you've found the one medication that will give you relief. My best of luck to you! God Bless
Thank you for the encouragement. I have also recently read that (and my bloodwork shows it) a severe lack of magnesium in the diet could make the symptoms worse. I am definitely starting magnesium and am waiting for the weekend to start the lyrica (with courage) as I have a trip to take this week and do not want any nasty side effects on this business trip. Thank you and God Bless you too!

Hello my name is kathaleen and I have had fibromyalgia for 8 yrs now. Was on lyrica for 3 years and gained 40 pounds on it! Fda recently approved savella. I have lost 31 pounds being on it for 3 months and it helps with depression. Of course everyone responds to med differently but I feel savella is much better for fibromyalgia than lyrica. Hope this helps. If you do decide on savella, take it in small doses first to avoid seratonin syndrome. The seratonin helps w depression and the pain receptors. I feel so much better on savella and my fibro is really bad. Kathaleen
Hi Kathleen... when you began using the Savella, were you already depressed? Did the Savella help your depression as well as the fibro pain? I can ask my psychiatrist about the Savella for my depression. Do you use any other drug besides the Savella for your fibro pain, or do you use Savella only.

I tried Lyrica a few years ago for the fibromyalgia, before I had the bone fusion surgery in my lower back. Lyrica did help my fibro pain, however, it blurred my vision terribly, that I had to be taken off it. I noticed immediately the pain in my legs returning. Now I am on Cymbalta 60 mg for the fibromyalgia, but I also take Prednisone for Addison's disease (adrenal gland insufficiency), and my doctor is trying to wean me off it with no success. I'm on 5 mg daily of Prednisone for the past 3 years, and if I even go down to 4 mg, my legs begin to burn like someone lit a torch to them. So I must then go back up to the 5 mg. Lyrica is a good pain med for fibro pain, but another friend of mine who takes Lyrica says that her vision is also blurry, but she no longer drives a car like I do. Hope my answer was helpful.
