(Metamucil) can help lower cholesterol levels and help prevent heart disease and keep the colon healthy. However-- I have never had digestive or elimination probs--totally regular! IAm I asking for trouble if I add a fiber supplement to my daily diet?
THX in advance!

Generally fiber supplements, especially bulk forming ones, can help with constipation but also with causing loose stools to form up. I think adding the psyllium husk might soften the stools some but I dont think it will be troublesome for you, even if you are normally regular, it will just keep you that way. You must be sure to drink plenty of fluids when using fiber supplements for them to work their best. Aim for 64oz of water or juices per day. Iced tea and coffee do not count for fluid replacement because they act as diuretics on the body therefore pull more fluid off than they replace. Water is truly the best fluid but many people dont like to drink water. I find that a good quality bottled water is good-I cant abide our tap water where I live so I have an RO filter. After you get used to drinking water, only water does the trick when you are thirsty.

Adding lemon or lime or any fruit to flavor the water is good or even adding something like Chrystal Light is better than drinking soda, coffee or tea. My father takes psyllium husk fiber for his cholesterol and also to help him lose weight. I've been thinking of trying it. I usually use Benefiber for my fiber supplement because it is tasteless and doesnt thicken liquids and you can add it to anything but I'm not sure it has the same properties as psyllium does for the weight loss. Any fiber can help cholesterol levels though. It helps to bind to the cholesterol in your diet so it isnt absorbed by the body.

THX! I have been wondering about the difference in Benefiber and psyllium/Metamucil, too. Benefiber sure is a lot easier to get down (for me). I have also used the Fiber gummies. But-- I have been wondering if all these "easy fiber solutions" offer the same effects as the pysillium-based ones. LOL-- I did find I could only take ONE not the TWO (suggested dose) of the gummies. Major problems!! Which is one reason I am hesitant to do the psyillium-- I don't need any help in the elimination dept! But I do want all the other benefits!
