When is surgey enough? Everytime they do surgury the pain gets worse. I am up to 15 mg MS Contin with 10/325 percocet for break through pain to control it. I just turned 33 on the Fourth of July and feel like my spine is being crushed all the time with pain and burning down both legs. After the last two years of pain It is at the point of not being able to handle it anymore and now because of the meds I feel that I am treated like a drug addict. All I get is the last Dr. did not do enough bla bla bla when they did their surgery. I am on the 4th surgury and third spine specialist.. I really do not want to do another surgury because it gets worse not better and the meds do allow me to function but not work. So what should I do.

Hello,
i had one back surgery and that was enough. I did seek a second one but was told straight up your odds severely decrease with any additional surgeries. He refused to do surgery on me and said do not try and find a dr that will. Heres my suggestion. If you are able to function like you said even if its with pain pills DO NOT DO IT. I became satisfied with that answer NO for a second surgery although It crushed me to hear it because I wanted to get better and NOT live on pain pills and Im sure thats your ultimate goal too. Soemtimes we are given cards we do not want to play out but we have to. I strongly suggest dont change the playing cards as the next hand you are dealt with could be a really bad losing hand. By the way the one surgery I had was a disectomy that left me on pain pills and unable to work for the rest of my life. This was in 2003 I was 33 yrs old. I do understand how you feel but hun one more surgery could land you in a place you dont want to be. Right now enough is enough. Thats my opinion from living the same life. Bless you and I hope whatever you chose, all will be well. TC Snake
Hi, you answered your own question, enough is enough. Take control of your life and find u a pain managment Dr and take it from there. I had surgery on back in 2008, feb and is still in a lot of pain. I can't do much of anything BUT I am alive and not in wheelchair so I will live with this til the end NO MORE CUTTING here. think about the pros and cons weight it and leave it alone take the pill honey. Bad advice but the best fo you, in your case.A real dr will agree. Be Blessed and I will pray for your relief.
fell in 94 back injury had a total 6 back surgeries & 12 procedures morphine pump stimulator's ect. stop now i am fused from l-3 to s-1 the spine pulled apart @ t-12 each surgery the scar tissue will increase my back is like the concrete streets .so when i do try to walk it is like taking your finger tip & rubbing it on concrete. the finger are the nerves the concrete is the scar tissue. the more you rub the nerves the more it will hurt.
i suggest you find a pain management doctor but beware !!!! find a pain management group with in hospital like Herman hospital st Joesph MD Anderson. check with all hospitals fro pain management groups. their are so great doctors but make sure you find a doctor that is a anthologist ?? [ gas passer] puts you under for surgeries they are the best trained. also ask doctors where they did a fellowship on pain management. some take a weekend class @ Holiday inn & get a cert as a pain doctor

Thank you for your post back. I just wish I could find someone to help because every doctor here just wants to cut and cut. I am done with that but what to you do. I guess go talk to a disability lawyer but then you have to pay them. They ran some painfull tests at the Dr. and said I have some perminate nerve damage down my right leg so what is the sense. I know they say to pervent more damage but I am diabetic and how much can my body take. My diabetes are undercontrol but for how long with all this nonsence.
