I also suffer from plantar fascitis and my podiatrist originally started me on Celebrex, which I was allergic to (Sulfa drug) and could not take. His next step was oral steroids, so for 6 days I was on the Medrol Dose Pack. With the Medrol Dose Pack, you start day one with 6 tablets of Medrol 4 mg, and each day work your way down...5, 4, 3, 2, 1 until you finish the pack. That took the edge off for about one month only. Next step was steroid injections in the bottom of both feet. I was pain free for about 4 to 6 months.
The most relief I've gotten is from changing my shoes. When at all possible I wear Crocs, and I am almost completely pain free. If you haven't already tried elastic arch supports that might be worth a try. Last, if you can tolerate the feeling of Capsaicin, try Synovium Pain Relieving Gel (from Walgreens). It's odorless and greaseless, and specifically designed for feet, ankles, and knees. It's even helped my arthritic knees. Good luck to you.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. The only other treatment I heard of (but never tried), is Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy. I heard about this procedure on a TV program a couple of months ago. It's used in patient's with chronic plantar fascitis that hasn't responded NSAID's, PT, Steroid injections, and custom orthotics. The procedure is suppossed to be painless and involves sound waves directed to the painful area of the foot to stimulate healing. I'm not sure of the success rate and I don't know of anyone that's had it done. Best of luck to you.
already done. the navy calls it ultrasound it heats up the inner area of the plantar fascha to promote healing. it was a complete failure.

i have already had the maximum allotment the navy allows for steroid shots in a year in the first 3 months of the year. i have custom orthotics. i've been through physical therapy 4 times. and they will not prescribe anything else for some odd reason even though it is obvious i have built up an immunity.
