I have had migranes all my life, but for the last three weeks I have had one that will not go away?

Migraines are such a pain. I have had migraines for 10 1/2 years and have tried every preventitive, abortive, and even have had to get shots at the doctors office. Topamax is helpful, my 13 year old daughter has migraines also and she is on 25 mg of Topamax at bedtime, but does take a while for it to get in your system at a constant level like any other medication. There is a medication that is a nasal spray called Migranal that I have been on for 9 years. I went to that after Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig and several other pill abortive meds didn't work. I would reccomend asking to see a Nuerologist because there are other treatments out there. There are also other preventitive medications such as Elavil, Depakote, Lyrica (a fairly newly approved med for prevention), Zonegran and Nuerontin. Most Primary Care Doctors don't know all the other medications there are out there to help a migraine sufferer.

They have even approved Botox injections into the muscles in the head to paralyze them to prevent the nerves from transmitting pain and relieving any pain from migraine. There are several blood pressure medications that are prescribed as "OFF LABEL" preventitives for migraines. I would strongly urge you to seek out a really good nuerologist who can really delve into why you continue to have a constant migraine, and how to treat it more aggressively. These are just my suggestions of things that I have been through with Nuerologists over the past 10 1/2 years. I have even gone as far as having nerves in my neck ablated to see if that would help, and even sinus surgery to see if that would help eliminate the frequency and intensity of the pain associated with the migraine. If you have nausea and vommiting during your attacks there are some good medications for that also, one of the older ones that I take is called Tigan. It has less side effects then Phenergan, Compazine, Reglan, or Zofran (this works well and comes in many forms). Even with prevention it doesn't make them go away forever. You will have occassional attacks. I wish you the best of luck in trying to get rid of the migraine frequency and intensity.
