You can find out about diverticulitis here: http://www.drugs.com/cg/diverticulitis.html
You should talk again to your doctor about the effects the constant diarrhea is having on your life. You may need a second opinion.

Hi i feel your pain i'm 31yrs old and have been suffering with the same thing for 3 yrs i was diagnosed with overactive proton pumps, IBS-D, and a Spastic Colon I was prescribed levisin and a proton pump inhibitor with moderate pain and cramp relief for a few months but the diarrhea remained. The last 20 months or so i have suffered with horrible cramps and i have had to wear depends also due to uncontrollable loose or watery stools 12 to 20 times or more a day that happen with no warning and i am not aware im having them until it is too late I have to sleep in depends on hospital style bed protector pads it gets so bad at night i live and will probably never have a relationship with anyone until something happens to get myself better. My gastroenterologist has done several test and 3 scopes and has no answer.
lostforhelp, Thank you for answering my post. I was beginning to think there was no one else like me out there. I am so sorry to hear you have had this so long. I feel for you so much. I have a new doctor who I hope will help. They are testing for rare types of parasites. I did not know that unless a doctor specifically tests for them, they will not find them. There is another test where they have you collect your urine for 24 hours and I was negative on this. My doctor also said there is a possibility that there could be a circulatory problem usually found in diabetics but is worth looking into after the parasitic tests come back. My new doctor believes the answer will be found in a rare disease area. As she put it worthy of a Mystery Diagnosis television episode. At least she is not blowing me off. I'll let you know how it goes and maybe this will help us both. My husband has just about had it with me I'm afraid. You will be in my prayers. As they say first comes science then comes God. I'm counting on both. Keep in touch thanks bad stomach

I typed response to diarrhea--did it go thru? I guess not--OK
I used to have the same problem. After my Doc checked with colonoscopy to make sure I had no serious problem like cancer, he told me to take daily doses of fiber, which comes in all kinds of ways. I take capsules of psyllium fiber. A pharmacist can point these out to you. Be careful, take with a full glass of water to prevent choking! And wash it down into your stomach. Also you must take 2 hours before other medication or 2 hours after because the fiber can absorb your other medicine and dilute it!! Be careful and Bless You and good luch! Sylvee PS No more diarrhea!!!
I forgot--other instructions were to avoid caffeine, which is in tea, coffee, cokes, chocolate!!! Well I do watch the drinks, but not always the chocolate, altho not much! Some people say dairy is bad also, but I love my milk, etc. Nestle's chocolate milk/drink is 99% caffeine free--it reads on the carton so if you don't read that it's not caffeine--free! Of course avoid other foods which you have noticed might produce diarrhea. It is such a relief not to have to deal with that diarrhea!!

Thanks for the post I have since seeked help from another gastroenterologist since posting and I have had 2 colonoscopies and an endoscope and serveral more test the other GI Doctor hadnt ran. I have somewhat received a little relief with the diarrhea so far. I missed alot of work after the last post as i wasnt obtaining any nutrition from what i was taking in. My intake had gotten where it was passing through me in about 15-20 mins completely undigetsed not trying to be gross but that had become a big problem. I did receive a little help with the cramps and stomach pain with some different medications in return had made the situation of passing undigested food and more frequent uncontrollable BMs described above come about. During that time I experienced serveral days of spending 12+ hrs straight sitting on the toilet because of non stop liquid BMs after begining taking the new meds.

My MD wanted me to come in after the second day of being condemed to the bathroom and there was no possible way to leave I had to enlist the help of my cousin who is a nurse that has helped me several times in the past with my troubles over the years. She spent her days off from work administering IV fluids to me as I had become dehydrated taking the medications and remained that way til they were out of my system after 4 days of this horrible way of living I had, I was able to get to my MD. I am on a different medication as of now that has since improved bowel control slightly and daily trips to the bathroom down in the lower teens. I'm scheduled for more test over the next couple of weeks and another colonoscopy next month. I have noticed the BMs are not as volumous but are still very loose and watery but what little control I have obtained has been very encouraging. I'm praying that this is a sign that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for things to return as close to normal as my life was years ago. I will post more as I get results and notice things that seem to be better or worse as I place my hopes on this new GI Doctor. Sincerely Lostforhelp
Dear lostforhelp, I am so glad to hear you are better. You have been in my prayers and will continue to be. I am waiting on tests for parasites still since the lab made a mistake and did not perform some of the tests so we had to resubmit samples. I try to keep a good attitude but its hard. I know it is for you too. I am so glad to hear you have someone helping you through this and thank goodness for her being a nurse. You are blessed with that. Please keep me informed on how you are doing. I will let you know about me too. My doctor is looking into a circulatory problem next. I hope she will figure it all out eventually. Keep pushing the doctors and never give up! May God bless you and hope to hear good news from you soon. Sincerely bad stomach
