I was recently taken off the drug cold turkey, by a doctor who was new to me (. My doc was on vacation) . He did a UA AND THE RESULTS WERE A FALSE POSITIVE.
I was told not to come back , that I must be "doing something else with them
now , I have run out and have no one to turn to for help. I went to a psych appt and told him about the false neg., and he agreed with my PHP, & sent me to do another UA while I still had some pills left . I have no idea what the 2nd UA results are: I can't believe I'm (literally) I'm being called a "bold faced liar",on TOP of going thru withdrawal. I need my medicine for the neck pain, & a referral to an orthopedic surgeon for cervical laminectomy. If I could find any pain meds on the street (friends), but I don't have any . Can you tell me what to do ?

Did the other doctor come back off vacation and agree with the other doctor? You could try going to the emergency room. I have read a number of posts here lately mentioning something similar in that they swore they had taken the medicine and showed up negative. Go to your regular doctor and let him know this has happened.

Thanks pattishan61, for responding! No, I never even HEARD from my regular
PHP. and that hurts, because I've chased him all over this town, from practice to practice . He is only a PA, and the jerk I saw, was an MD, & told me that I'd never get another pain pill from ANYONE in that practice!!
This all happened on the day b4 my ex & our son were leaving for vacation to Fla; I had just got them filled 9 days before this appoin tment
but even tho I was getting 100, it was only a 17 day supply, & I would have run out 4 days prior to returning home! All I wanted was carry over meds for vacation...
So, I called from Fla to get pee results/:& got the news of the false neg...

I could not believe my ears. And everything has gone downhill ever since then.
The next snafu, was being honest & telling my shrink about the incident.
Like I've said, he didn't even pause before he said the very same thing,& that he agreed... and THIS ONE IS A LOSE/LOSE OUTCOME,
If pos., He said it means I started taking my meds to make tests correct in the future, & if neg., he said I'm doing something else with my meds...
I still say this is totally surreal to me... I had to practically beg for the meds I was getting, why would I sell them ???
I had googled the terms to get to a site about this phenomena,
and low and behold, there are pages of refrences regarding false negatives, but when I told my psych. To look it up, he just sat and shook his head NO...
i am so sorry to hear that. There are a couple of stories of false negatives here. Have you heard of a patient advocate. Check that out and tell them you are willing to take a hair drug test. God, I feel so bad for you because I have been in withdrawals and it hurts. Anyway, I'll say a big prayer for you and I hope you get some answers today. I guess you could check with a lawyer if you can afford it. The problem with people getting meds they weren't prescribed and them getting addicted is rampant and that is what caused them to test you.
I just saw another post where someone else took a UA and came up negative for oxycodone. I have not even been trying to track this, but, I do know this is at least the 3rd time I have seen this in the last 2 weeks. I wonder if there are some faulty tests out there. Have you thought to have them check your hair? I have read that that is the most expensive, but, accurate test.
First of all, let me say that the group of fam med I was seeing sent a registered letter, which I never went to pick up, & was not here to sign for it.
I went to pick up my records & they had them ready for me, so I had to sign a release for them. I cannot see any doc in that group. Ever again. They gave me 30 days to find a new php, and during that time, they would see me ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES.That 30 days has come and gone. Thank God for Illinois Health Connect... they have RN's on duty 24/7. And one of them has listened to me thru the "pick three things" incident, well before this dilemma happened.
Maybe she will know about the patient advocate deal.

The emergency room is not an option , because this ia a small town, and this doctor even contacted my pharmacy for a print out of all my meds from the first of 2009 to the present... and they know what is up!! The policy for this group of doctors for refills, is to contact the pharmacy, & let them know you want/need a refill... then, they fax the dr office and pass the info along. Chart gets pulled, have to wait for doctor to agree /disagree, and fax that info back to pharmacy... Needless to say, the pharmacy got alot of calls from me, wondering if I should try to get a " person " to go by and pick it up for me... or, whether there will be anything to pick up or not. The phcy does not call customers back, so naturally, I needed to contact them way too many times, as they close at 6 PM M-F, & sat open til 2-3(?), & are closed on Sunday. Another Rule that the doctors office has is to notify the pharmacy 48 hrs. BEFORE you will need your refill... so, in all this do-this-do-that-jump-how-high... thru their OWN DEMISE, I ended up having to call them way too often(& DO NOT CALL DR OFFICE AND ASK THEM TO PLEASE SEND SOMETHING to the pharmacy before they close please?
OR call phcy when it is getting close to closing time, and pester the hell out of them to re-fax or call for me!! What kind of snafu is THAT?
Especially when I have ALOT OF DIFFERENT MEDS TO CALL ABOUT... so, I'm telling you that I'm sure doc office and pharmacy people are dancing a jig about THAT RX alone (& flexeril, one a day at bedtime...
Anyhoo-- no, I have not contacted my doctor. I'd have to go thru all the nurses, desk people,; and there is nothing he can do. He signed the list of docs in that group, and I can't do a damn thing about it. And , like I said, small town (Hooterville)-- word travels fast here. I've been deemed a drug seeker and a drug seller, since "doing something else with meds"... it's slander to me. The BOLD FACED LIAR THING-ie is apparently a worrysome issue with that doctor, because I got my purse and left-held back tears till I got to desk. But he was still saying, "I did NOT call you a bold faced liar "& even put it in progress notes in my medical records.
A friend of mine told me that her boyfriend is going to methadone clinic for pain mgt, but age said even tho they sit and drink their medicine at the clinic, they have several issues with FALSE NEGATIVES ALL THE TIME!!!
I'm gonna check out the advocate thing and let you know something later
thanks for caring and helping,
Mad As Hell
Oh baby I am so sorry. I do think you need a patient advocate in case you go to the hospital, apparently everyone does and I am just now hearing this. I think you may need to go to a different county and try again and let the doctor know he can check your hair. Hair will show drugs the most accurately. I would actually buy a couple of home tests and bring them with me to the doctor and if you are lucky enough to find another doctor soon, and you ever have that issue again, take one of the test in the office and take it. Anyway, Best of Luck. I am Praying for you. I take a medicine called suboxone because I was taking 6 lortab 10 a day and wanted to get off and I went thru withdrawal. It only lasted 24 hours and then I could take the suboxone and it stops them. You can also take methadone for pain management. I didn't know if you were aware of that.

You sound like you are a really decent person who never even thought to abuse your meds and are now totally confused about what to do. A attorney might be able to help or get a patient advocate, and go to another county and pharmacy. What large city is around you? I am so frustrated by this and I would like to help but don't know what else to tell you. Please feel free to ask or tell me something if you need to. Use the pharmacy in the larger city or try mail order. God Bless you!
I've had a "reaction" I'd like to hear comments on. My doc said I could try Vicaprofen(7.5/200) instead of my usual Vicadin(5/325 tylenol). I always cut in half and only take 2/3 times a day for FOUR diferent back afflictions. After just 4 full days on the Vicaprofen, I've noticed I'm not as regular in moving my bowels as i usually am. This seems like a side effect of say, taking something like Percocet, which binds me up altogether! Am i just imagining this?? also, maybe because my doc knows I'm very cautuious about meds, but he gave me a 60-pill prescription, when all I read is that it's only for short-term use, like 10 days!
