It could be the meds but it could just be part of her dementia. I have found that elderly folks with dementia often get very aggitated when they are in pain. It is like they have forgotten how to express that they hurt so they just get more aggitated and fussy. Try offering her some Tylenol to take, or maybe the Lortab, but the Lortab could possibly make it worse-you may just have to monitor how she responds to it. Many elderly folks pain responds quite well to plain Tylenol (acetaminophen) and once the pain is gone they settle down and are much more calm, then you know it is pain causing the aggitation. She probably doesnt realize she is mumbling. Try seeing if she gets better if you offer pain meds. Try the Tylenol first, if no response to that in 3-4 hours, try the Lortab. If those dont work or make it worse, then talk to the Dr-they may need to adjust some of her meds. My grandma was like this and they had her on Zyprexa and she responded quite well to that medication but everyone is different. Dementia is such a hard thing to deal with.
