I have a 34year old schizophrenic friend who has been on clozapine for many years and 6months ago started also taking abilify. He seems to be even more emotionally flat and forgetting more. His outbursts then abandonment stages haven't gone away either. What should I do for him? His family just ignores his outbursts, which I don't think is healthy for him. He is very hurtful during the flipping out stage
What can i do for my schizophrenic friend who is emotionally flat, forgetful & still has outbursts?

He also CLAIMS he only acts like this around me and noone else and blames me for his behaviors and hallucinations. I am wondering if he truly only acts like a lunatic around me (for which I KNOW I'm not to blame) or does he act like this around anybody who is around him?

Do not relate every aspect of his behaviour to him being schizophrenic because a lot of it may be caused by the drugs he is taking which can cause aggression, indifference, psychosis, mood swings and even suicidal thoughts. They also flatten a persons emotions and when taken for years can cause brain damage. It annoys me that people are often left like zombies for years. This is not a cure for anything . It just keeps patients quiet and submissive like they do in assylums. Help your friend by taking him to an alternative therapist if you can and tell him that you care because he needs more than drugs to help him . Ask his present doctor what lab test proves he is schizophrenic. This is just a theory !

Your friend should have a full physical examination if possible. Many so called mental illnesses stem from undiagnosed physical conditions. Also he could see a psychotherapist who may be able to find the root cause of his behaviour without years of harsh drugs.I think there is usually a reason for everything if you dig deep enough. LAbelling a person schizophrenic and drugging them for life is not the answer because the drugs cause so many side effects which mimic mental illness. Have you heard of the soteria project where people diagnosed with serious mental illnesses were taken off drugs and given real help and support in their lives. Most of them recovered but the government refused to fund this project. Big pharma won in the end. ! I really dont think long term drug treatment works for the so called mentally ill due to the horrendeous side effects of psychotropic drugs.

THey really need a time limit put on them as to how long they can be prescribed then fewer people will end up with neurological conditions such as tardive dyskinesia and other such conditions. Your friend could even have a food allergy or something like lead or copper could be the trigger. Of course drug companies wont tell you this. They are a business
