A couple of months ago I went through a period of having migraines every single day for 7 weeks. I am a law student and this happened right before exam time. As many of you may know, you cannot function with a migraine. It was one of the worst times in my life and after getting off all medication, they subsided. However, I feel like they are coming back and even though I am on inderol, I have still gotten a migraine every day(for the past 2 weeks). I am concerned the migraine cycle is starting again.
I can handle all of Topamax's side effects except the Memory loss/unable to think of a word. I am in law school and have interviews and exams and have to participate in class. How many people does this side effect really effect? If I get a lower dosage is there less chance of me having the memory loss? any comments are welcomed. Migraines are horrible and it is nice to hear that I am not alone and others have been through the trial and error phase of figuring out what works for their migraines. thanks

My experience with Topomax was quite similar to yours; i.e., I could handle all of the side effects except for the inability to 'grab words' and the confusion brought on by the drug. I finally had to stop taking it after I got lost on my way home one night. I was a mile from my house when I started for home and I have lived in this town my entire life! I couldn't handle the disorientation any longer. The important thing is to work closely with a neurologist who specializes in migraine/headache treatment. There are a large variety of drugs and/or combination of drugs available. Each person's response is different and you and your doctor need to keep trying to see what works best for you. Good luck to you!

You are defenently not alone. But some meds like neuronton, not sure I spelled it right, that I have taken before for migraines made the problem even worse. Once when I had some tests at the hospital to rule at anything worse than migraines the nurses said they called alot of the meds stupid medicine, because they might make your head feel better, but they made you stupid! Well I guess we have to keep trying to find a happy medium. Not only do I suffer from migraines both my teen children have them chronicly.
