I am about to start my son on Focalin Xr, I was wondering do you medicate only on school days?

Up to you.
If your son tolerates it well and you notice an improvement then you may wish to continue with it during the weekends.
But if he doesn't like the way it makes him feel, and you don't notice an obvious improvement, then you can choose not to give the medicine to him.
