Forteo has been prescribed for my treatment of osteoporosis. My question is : isn't it expensive and did medicare/medicaid pay for the drug? I have not had this question answered by anyone. Could someone help me out on this, please?

You need to check with the Dr who prescribed it - he/she will have to recommend you. I do not know how it works but If you are on medicare and medicade and cannot take other osteo meds there is a good chance it can be paid for except for a co-pay each month. The drug company says it also has help available and to contact them directly for information. Hope that helps.

Yes, it is very expensive. I just checked on it for my mother in law and it was $850.22 after her AARP medicare prescription insurance. The insurance would pay $1660.96 of the total price of $2511.18 for 3 month supply. Which she could not afford, so I am applying for their Patient Assistance Program, which looks promising. Hope this helps.

my mom just finished her two year regimen of forteo with very litttle results.
Dad had very good insurance and this is what they paid: Dad had to pay the total amount 800.00-900.00 for the first 8 months of the year and insurance covered 80 percent for the next 4 months. Mom was miserable with joint pain the entire two years, I honestly feel this drug is in too much of a experimental phase to be safe and that is why the insurance companies don't want to pay for it. Good Luck with your decision and please add me as a friend so I can keep up with your progress. Terri
