My thought here, especially if your physicians are running more Prograf tests, is that the Prograf is starting to cause kidney damage. I have a kidney and pancreas transplant and it is kind of a double-edged sword, as these are stronger drugs than years ago so allow for more transplants that might not have been possible w/o them (ie those that are not as good of a match), but they can also cause kidney failure and diabetes, so I could eventually end up back where I started. I started on Prograf but switched to cyclosporin a few months ago for other reasons, but they both carry that possible side effect unfortunately. Good luck - I hope things turn around for you soon!

Thank you so much for telling me this, I had forgotten to add that I am border line diabetic also. I certainly hope that you don't have to have another transplant! My worries are just beginning again I guess. My local Dr. wanted to send me straight to a nephrologist, but my transplant team want me to hold out for more tests. God Bless you.
I would suggest that you do go to a nephrologist soon though too and have him or her work with your transplant team to determine the definite cause of your decline in kidney function. I'm surprised your transplant team wanted you to wait on that. The nephrologist may be able to figure something out faster as it may not be related to your transplant meds but something else altogether and the sooner you find out, the sooner you can begin to work on correcting the problem. Good luck - I know this stuff is stressful and a rollercoaster but try to stay positive and faithful and you'll get to the other side of this issue too. A positive attitude can make a huge difference in our health and outlook. And with all we've gone through already to get us to this point, we can handle anything! :)
My local doc (the one who wants me to see a nephrologist) will be calling me Tuesday am with my results and if he mentions again, I will agree with him and go to one. Thank you for your input. God Bless You.
Got a call from transplant coordinator, told to go on to nephrologist, as kidney and prograf both functions went up more. Dr. called this am and said they are trying to get me an appt asap, I live in the mountains, so they hav e to find one below us! I am not stressing anymore, went to the gym today and I feel so much better, plus I have the Lord. Thankyou blessedlife.
I'm so glad you are getting those appointmentsm hopefully quickly, and they are working with you. With your Prograf level going up, did your transplant doc lower your Prograf dose? I really hope and pray this resolves for you w/o any long-term damage to your kidneys. I'm am glad you are feeling more at peace with things. I've found that if you just take the best care of yourself that you can, then just let go and trust God, it is so much easier to deal with the ups and downs of our health issues. Take care, good luck and have faith!
