Hi, i'm so sorry to hear about your illness. There are loads of painkillers you can use instead of tramadol. If you're worried about addiction try to switch meds asap as you obviously realise there is a high risk of addiction with this medicine. I can't believe you can buy them otc! Where do you live? Something like diclofenac could be good for you? Obviously anything with paracetamol should be avoided. Speak to your doctor though and tell him/her your concerns. Good luck

I really think you should your doctor, as you've said, as soon as possible. In the mean time you can start weaning yourself off the tramadol and as long as you don't have any other medical problems, such as asthma or a stomach ulcer, you can try Nurofen/Ibuprofen instead of the Tramadol if the pain gets worse when you lower the tramadol dosage. How long have you been taking tramadol? I would suggest you lower the daily dose by 50mg a day, do this for 4-7 days, then try lowering by another 50mg for the next 4-7 days, and carry on like this. Hopefully you can see your doctor in the mean time. I am shocked to hear how you can get hold of meds where you live! Please feel free to post again if you want. Goodluck!
