jimandtoni ... I want to answer you because my mother has severe scoliosis. It's really bad and extremely painful. She has been on Hydromorphone 2mg. continuously for 8 months. Today the doctor upped her dose to 8mg every 4 hours. I do not know of any reasons why you should not take hydromorphone for the pain in your spine. Did your doctor tell you it shouldn't be taken for scoliosis?

A curvature of the spine can lead to a host of debilitating as well as degenerative health problems. For many there is no simple treatment and no cure or long term remedy. If a person suffering from spinal stenosis (nerve root pinching), particularly in the lumbar (lower) spine, a common symptom of prolonged curvature of the spine (scoliosis)--they would indeed be in serious pain requiring pain management. However, the warning has to do with rare cases of mid-spine deforming curve if it leads to Kyphoscoliosis, which is a curvature of the spine inducing breathing problems. As for the first answer it is inappropriate, although I am sure she meant well. This country has a very poor record with caring with those in pain, statements that minimize possible human suffering tend to lead to healthcare policies that leaves millions with a reduced quality of life.
Well, let me tell you. Try flexing your bicep and continue to hold for, oh, forever. Then take another muscle and stretch it for oh, the same amount of time. Are your muscles getting sore? That is nothing compared to the muscles that are constantly stretched and flexed on either side of a curved spine. And due to the uneveness of your back, legs, the whole body in fact, you are in severe pain and the results because of this curvature such as degenerative disc disease, knee pain, hip pain and anything else that is connected to any part of you spine is all caused by the scoliosis. So if the only reason you are finding for not using lortab, hydrocodone, and other narcotics for pain are due to the fact that the pain is from something else, I'm glad my doctor doesn't agree with you. I have surpassed the hydrocodone, an am now on oxycontin for my pain FROM my scoliosis.
