This is the first time I've seen someone taking chantix that hasent quit after the first week. I am just going into my 3rd week, and although my cravings have eased, i'm still smoking about half of what i was. I'm afraid of setting a quitdate with my cravings still at this level.
Good job msdennis!! Sorry i had no advice, just wanted to say i am a few weeks in, and wondering if i will ever get to a quit date. Good Luck

Having smoked for over 40 years I was informed that I had to quit as I had a granddaughter that was going to be born to my daughter and she was not going to bring the baby to a home that smelled like smoke. My wife and I started on Chantix in March of 2009, she quit within 3 days but still took the pills for the three months. I in turn was still smoking till the first Sunday in June 2009 and I haven't smoked since. I used butterscotch disk for something to have in my mouth besides a cigarette. I'm 65 now, I have COPD and have directed others on this subject of making their life healthier.

My final quit took place in summer 2008. Up front. Chantix WORKS !!
prerequisites :
You must absolutely, unconditionally want to quit. if you are not committed, it may not help.
Follow instructions for dosage to the letter.
Be aware of the listed, some frightening, side effects, and pay attention to your response. Most of them will not happen.
The only one I noticed was the weird dreams... I miss them :))
regarding the suicide question, I was more apt to off myself if I didn't quit smoking. I was that sick of the stink and astronomic expense.
