My 11 year old started Xyrem 2.5mg 2x a night two weeks ago. Where she is sleeping better, we still see no decrease in her cataplexy episodes/drops. Does xyrem take time (weeks/months) to show results?
How soon xyrem works?

Hello harahd. I'm not a doctor but do follow the ADD, ADHD, as well as Autism and Asperger Syndrome, illness, diagnosis. Sounds as to easy an answer but I believe you might wait another week perhaps two. The CNS drug of families are known, not uncommon for them to take some time too begin to do thier work. If you do wait it out a bit longer and you feel theres really no improvement in her cataplexy falls/drops, then I'd talk to her doctor. Bonus is she is as you said, sleeping better. Best of wishes and if you happen to read this, you might, if possible give us an update to how shes doing. Much appreciated, pledge

Hi pleadge, thanks for your reply. We have been discussing her situation with her Sleep specialist, xyrem dosage has been increaded to 4.5 2x/night. Cataplexy has curbed to the max, but there are still moments. He Dr. feels cataplexy should totally be controlled and wants to change her antidepresants from Clomipramine to something else. We have a follow-up in two weeks.
Thank you for the update harahd. So they did increase her doseage. Makes sense, and shes doing pretty good, thats a blessing. All in all good news. Thanks again, and good health to you and your family, bye bye then, pledge
