I have been taking hydros, percs, IR 30s, tabs, whatever painkillers I can get my hands on for 2 years. I want to stop, but I'm terrified of withdrawals. I am now almost 36 hours into it. The symptoms I have so far are yawning, bad chills, aches, extreme lethargy (I feel like I have bricks in my body), but I have to say that I thought it would be worse. I still got up and did some house chores. Tomorrow I'm supposed to work, but I might have to use a sick day.
I did read in some of the forums that it peaks on day 2 or 3. Does anyone know which day it will peak? Probably not because it's different for everyone, but any input would help...

I forgot to add that I have been taking around 100mg/day but more when I had more money. I have tried tapering, but I always eat more than I plan.
Also, I took these mostly for recreational use. It started with a prescription from the doctor, then the dentist, then the doctor, then the street. Now my life is out of control and I want to be done for good!

Last night was more difficult, but still not as bad as it could have been. Sleep was not easy. I took about 2 and a half muscle relaxers and twice the amount of Nyquil, but I still tossed and turned. I really didn't expect this because I have always been a good sleeper. But I am awake and moving around. I have to keep going because I have young kids at home.

Hang in there Startingnow. You can do this. You might get some help from the Thomas recipe. Google it and see if you can purchase some of the over the counter remedies to help you through this. it recommends a benzodiazepine, which requires a prescription, but it isn't necessary. You are still in the early stages of withdrawal. I would plan on taking off a few days if you can get them. You may peak in another 12 or so hours or it might take another day or two. Really depends on the person as you said.
We are here for you and will encourage you anyway I can. Keep posting.
Best wishes,
Laurie

Hi startingnow,
My CT WD seemed to peak within about 78 hours, but I was on prescribed OxyContin for almost ten years! Yours shouldn't be too bad. The Thomas Recipe will help,as you know.
Also, please google Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome, it explains in detail what is happening to certain brain chemicals, like serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and endorphins. IF you experience depression or panic attacks, get thee to the doctor asap! Depression (even brought about by opiate cessation) is nothing to muck about with!
Let us know how you are doing, and get in a hot bath when the muscle aches are horrid, and the twitching gets bad!!!
Best wishes to you,
Thanks SweetLemon I hope I can reach my peak soon so I can hurry back to feeling good even sooner. Not sure how much time I can take off work...
Hi again startingnow,
Sending good thoughts your way, hopefully you will only need one day off work! Keep us updated on how you are feeling, we care,
Lara

Hi! I was put in the hospital to withdraw. The one and only symptom I had was restlessness. I was taking Klonopin at the time, and I wish I would have asked my Psych for more. I walked around in a circle of the hospital at least 50 times a day, and I'm not exaggerating. Someone I knew came to visit me, and he brought me home to get some Klonopin I had. (Of course, when I returned to the hospital the entire security personnel were all over the place looking for me.) I had an IV hooked up and it didn't matter. I disconnected the IV and did what I had to do for my own health. I didn't give a rip. There was no way I could continue the way I was going. I understand that right now your unable to financially obtain any meds. Big time Bummer! The only thing I did in the hospital that helped me was to take as many showers as I wanted. For some reason, this relaxed me a bit. But you see, you are you, and each of us are different.

I was in the hospital for 3 days, and then it was over. I know in my heart of hearts that if I were taking more Klonopin, I wouldn't have had any symptoms. I pray you are able to find a homeopathic method of dealing with the withdrawal. Take showers, throw pillows, yell,(not at anyone, just for the relief. I threw ice in my garage and it helped to alleviate my aggression. The ice sounds like glass. What I'm trying to say in a million words, is I understand. God be with You and keep you in His loving arms. pickles503
Pickles,
That was some great advice and very kind of you, as always!
Your friend,
Thanks pickles!
laurieshay is great support, she is supporting me on my tapering off of percocet10/325. i too have been on pain meds for a little over a year. so far my worst symptoms are the resltess leg and arm syndrome. i do have lots of upper back pain from the withdrawls, but i really dont think the worse came yet. its still yet to come and i am scared also of the withdraws, i was told to take a dose befor bed , and that i find helped with my rls. and body aches, you can do this
Today began tolerable, but was quickly headed to worse. I am disappointed in myself and would appreciate anyone that would be willing to help me slowly wean off.
Hey Startingnow,
I would be happy to help you wean off the opiates. If you can tell me again what strength, how many and how often you are taking them, I will come up with a taper schedule.
Keep in touch,
Laurie
LaurieShay, Yes, Startingnow. You are strong. When I had the one and only manic episode, I was put in jail 3 times.(yeah. can u believe that?I) Anyway, the jail cell was really (and I mean REALLY) cold. So, I did jumping jacks for hours to keep warm. Can u do jumping jacks? That would be good! Maybe Hot baths, you know the kind where you put one toe in to test the water to see what the temp is, and quickly remove our toes? Those baths are the sooooo relaxing. Mark Twain once quoted "Patience is doing something else in the main time." I couldn't count the times this quote has helped me be patient. I guess that's what I have to offer. Maybe some quick solutions. When I was in mania, I was homeless for 6 months and for some reason I started Journaling. Then my Journal became a friend. After 6 months of writing in my Journal all my thoughts and feelings and things I saw and things I did, bad and good, it was stolen.

It was then I realized how precious it is to Journal. I lost my best friend. You have a computer. Maybe it mite b somethin u'd like. My daughters moving away the end of this week and I'm working on a plan. I'm gonna make some clay and I'm gonna make some bean bags. I'm going to take baths and do things around the house that has needed to be done for awhile. In the past, I'd go into depression if this happened. I guess we're both doing the same things. Trying to do other things in the main time. Laurie, your so sweet. I'm glad you can help ppl as you do. What a gift! KYEOJ Anna
