The dose of OxyContin (oxycodone ER) that the healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
* The type and dose of other painkillers you have taken
* The severity of your pain
* How you respond to OxyContin
* Other medications you are taking
* Other medical conditions you may have.
It is recommended to talk to the doc/pharmacist for the correct dosage the med is available in:
OxyContin 10 mg; OxyContin 15 mg; OxyContin 20 mg; OxyContin 30 mg;
OxyContin 40 mg; OxyContin 60 mg; OxyContin 80 mg; & OxyContin 160 mg.
Hope this helps?

Rajive is right as usual. The 2nd criteria he covered, simply means you should have been prescribed (or be tolerant to) other opiates before beginning Oxycontin. It is not meant for opiate naive people or acute pain.
Hope everything goes well for you and my best wishes!
