If you are taking haldol for a mental disorder How long should a person be on injections of haldol? should your doctor switch you to the pills after the first injection or can you stay on the injection? I read that you should be switched to the pill.

Haldol is a extremely strong anti-psychotic and I would avoid any drug that decreases levels of Dopamine, Norepinephrine, or Acetylcholine as you need these levels high to be able to function properly. As long as your mania doesn't end up in Psychosis I would try to learn to manage it and try to get prescribed Vyvanse, Adderall, Nuvigil, Bupropion XL, Memantine and Requip in order of likeability. I would get prescribed to as many of those on the list as you can. I am a Pre-Med student who has ADHD, Bipolar Disorder and Major Depression, but don't take action on my advice without consulting a doctor. If you have to take that medication and there is no way around it, get the pills. They will be less effective and you have the choice of if and when to take them. If you feel your mood is getting too high and out of control, then the medication will bring your mood back down quickly.
