I rarely get these cold sores, but developed a really bad one on my lip and chin while in Florida, perhaps too much sun. Taking a long time to heal. Also recently on cortisone taper for another problem. How long to wait to get Zostavax for shingles protection. I am 69 yr old female. Also have chronic pain issues.
How long should I wait to get zostavax after having fever blister (herpes simplex) of lip?

I just now found it buried in a whole bunch of other questions. The answer is you can take the herpes vaccine at any time and the literature also states that it can lessen pain and duration of the most awful attacks. Also, I believe there are anti-viral meds out there that are supposed to help with the duration, I don't know what the name is, it's been light years since I had to use them on my two year old. Meds have gotten better in 22 years.
