How long should I be on suboxone for?

Some people wish to stay on it for life, but my doc recommends 3 to 6 months. You'll need to taper down to less than a mg for at least a couple of weeks before stopping so to avoid withdrawals. A member, pattishan61, has her taper plan explained in her profile which you can read by going to "friends" and typing in her name in the search window, click on her avatar and read her profile. She was able to get off the subs without any withdrawal to speak of.

Dear hof... many have used pattishan61's plan and I have just started doing it. You need to taper VERY slowly because of the long half life of suboxone. It has a high affinity for the mu Opiod receptor. I think when patti got to .25 mg/day, she started skipping days in between. I can't remember how long she did that but just read her profile and you can see how she did it. Anyway... good luck. It will work if u r patient. Pup
