If you are taking this without a prescription then you are risking your life. Methadone is a totally different drug then oxycodone, morphine or heroin. You run the risk of respiratory failure especially while you're asleep. So don't take drugs drugs unless they are prescribed to you. If it is prescribed to you then please accept my apology. Most people that are prescribed methadone aren't worried about tox screens... Dave

hi joannheraldo33, I tend to agree with mvpt on that one. Why worry about a urine test if this medicine is being prescribed? Also, I extend my apologies if you are seeing a doctor. I am prescribed 200 mgs.a day. Twenty mgs. could easily kill someone if they have not built a tolerance. Your question, however was how long does Methadone stay in your system. Well, the drug is suppossed to last 72 hours all by itself so... that's three days, and then everybody is different. some people's kidneys and liver flush toxins out faster, while other people could take a drug screen ten days later and still have traces in thier urine. Hope all goes well but methadone gets a bad name because too many people use it to get high, which is not what it was intended for. Be safe. jess

Good golly Miss Molly! :) 200 mg? I have to break a sweat and hurt someone to go up. I have been at 130 forever and I have been asking to go up for 6 months. I have never failed a U.A., and I pay cash without any problems. Where do you live, because I am already packed. Seriously, I take methadone because I have a problem with oxy and hydro. I know how I am and I do not want to go back to prison. I am in college and about to graduate this summer, and I know I could not have done it without the program. But lately, I have been thinking about getting some Lortabs. I always feel bad towards night and I know I need to go up, but my doc is a d... The clinics are so scared of people selling their meds and overdosing, that people who are on an honest program are getting the short end.

If you are feeling some cravings then they should raise your dose 10-15mgs/day. Once you get around 80mgs a day on methadone virtually all opiates are blocked. The methadone molecule is huge compared to the other opiates and it has a very high affinity to our opiate receptors. So you could shoot grams of heroin and you wouldn't even get a flash. It could still kill you though as your respiratory system would likely shut down.
This is what usually happens with new patients on methadone that the doctors don't take the time to explain that their DOC are now out of the picture unless you get off the methadone for a week or so and we've all heard those horror stories.
So unless you get right off the methadone a weak opiate like hydrocodone (vicodin, hydro's, lortab) are virtually useless to you... Good luck and hang tight... Dave

I will not brief you on the dangers of methadone, all you have to do is watch the news, or open your eyes, to know it will kill you. I don't know why you are asking, but I am assuming you came here for an answer and not a lecture from Ma and Pa, so I will tell you- I have no idea how long it stays in your system because I have never stopped taking it long enough to know. I will tell you that I was on it when I came out of prison and still had my ankle alarm on, and they piss tested me every time, and I never popped hot. Probation/ parole use individual sticks for each drug, so if they do not have methadone as your drug of choice, you may be okay. Most employers do not test for methadone because it isn't as widely used or known about as other "street drugs" and the tests are a little higher priced-not cost effective. Plus, employers are not supposed to be able to disqualify you for a position because of methadone-if you have a prescription.

Hi Velcro722, Go ahead and pack! I think Florida does give out some of the highest doses of methadone than any state I have been in. Now after I crushed my heel I went to a local Methadone clinic. Pain management was just becoming poplular, alot of people were afraid to go to doctor and stayed on the program for their pain. I was on 170mgs.when I found a doctor I could trust. He started me on 160mgs. The reason was they were giving the 40 mg. disketts at the time., so when I cracked a couple of ribs at work he bumped me to two hundred mgs.I will tell you though other than the Methadone he is very strict about giving anything for breakthrough. Now I know that you can not get "high" on opiates but that is exactly what I want because it does work for breakthrough. My ex-hubby gets his Methadone and 240 oxys. every month. He does have a nuch more serious injury than me.
