I have been taking it for about 2 months, but I find I am generally feeling unwell and still in pain--I don't like feeling worse to feel better- I thought arthritis was an autoimmune disease, so impairing myself even more seems like unneeded suffering--is this drug really worth it? So far not for me.
How long does it take to experience pain relief from methotrexate?

I am taking a folic acid supplement daily--I am just concerned about the side effects of this drug, since I feel sick a lot now, and no pain relief yet, and extra stomach sensitivity. Would taking a supportive supplement such as Bovine Colostrum or herbal echinacea& goldenseal w/vit.C interact with the effectiveness of methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis?

For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, patients should supplement their diet with folate. In these cases inhibition of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) is not thought to be the main mechanism, but rather the inhibition of enzymes involved in purine metabolism, leading to accumulation of adenosine, or the inhibition of T cell activation and suppression of intercellular adhesion molecule expression by T cells.
This diet is extremely important and you really need to following... Dave
