there are varying different answers to this question bandied about all over the place. some say it reduces by half every 24 hours (i.e. if you took 8mgs today you'd have 4mgs the day after that, 2 after that then 1 then none). but from personal experience you'd be w/d so hard off that amount by day three you'd kill for some more anyway.
another answer i heard somewhere else is that i can take up to 12 days to clear your system completely. which is obviously quite different to the first answer. either way if you are thinking of weaning yourself off subs reduce it slowly to a very, very small amount (try crushing and sniffing them, you absorb a lot less of any drug thru your nose) before attepting to stop. this is true of any opiate type drug but is easier with bup. because of its agonist/antagonist properties.
if you are asking this question because you are worrying about a urine test. don't. you need very specific and expensive tests to catch it! they are generally not used by probation/employers etc.

Hey "jkhdfk", I hope u get on here more often then what Id expect and you can answer my quick question as well. How true, or knowledged are u about how i should not worry if i am about a urine test bc I have taken subs, but poss have a test on friday at 3pm? I took 8mg at 2:30pm wed. should i be okay or prob. a bad idea all around. Thanx, if u can get this answered in time!!

I believe i know the answer to this question. i get tested for every drug and alcoholic drink on this planet about 3 days a week, including opiods lyk suboxone, subutex, and methadone. usually on a Tuesday night, if i take a full 8 mg pill of suboxone by mouth or nose, i'm clean by 530 on Thursday. I know this because that is when my next test is after Tuesday. What i've heard a lot of people say is that it gets out of your system in 36-37 hours and by passing tests in about 45 hours, i can say that it's true.

thanks for your answer i have test coming up and was wondering about subs also. sorry you have to get tested so much-know there is probaly alot to that story. do you mean lyk is that lyrica? sorry i am kinda old and do not know what all is out there. that must be a rough couple days for you.

And i wondering about this question the last words how i read about 35-36 hours is out of your body or 45 hours? And is buprenophine a opiath? Im on 8mg bubrenophine and ilike to know can i use methadone without diazepam ot with?And for how much time iwill be clean to can do that or that is opiath too and never mind ? This question is perfect for me! IT'S DIFFERENT FOR EVERYBODY!!! I can't speak for anybody but myself, however, in my case it has been 6 full days without taking suboxone and I am still testing positive for BUP. I took 2mg on a Friday night before going to sleep and I am testing positive tonight, Thursday. WTF!!! HUH! That's what brought me to this site in the first place. I'm beginning to believe that the half-life on BUP is similar to that of methadone, 72 hours. It also matters what test you are taking. Very few places test for buprenorphine. Clean and Sober, Oxford houses, Halfway Houses, whatever you want to call them, they don't even test for it. Like Oxycontin, Suboxone is tested in a unique way. If you smoke an Oxy and then take a test for opiates, you will pass. It's only until you take a specific opiod test for Oxy's is it discovered.

Im an ex hard core heroin junkie who started re hab 6 years ago, i started on 150mg meth then moved to finland where my wife comes from, after 2 half years i had got down to 28mg daily, then i switched to suboxone on a dose of 8mg this was in may2010, then a few weeks ago i was on 6mg then 2 weeks ago i stopped it , i was waiting for the withdrawls but none came, i have just got back from my clinic who could not believe what i had done and even more so that there was no withdrawls, i then gave a urine test which was negative for all opioids the only positive was for my Rivitril. So the answer is everyone is different my doctor put it down to the fact that i had such a huge tolerence for opioids that it worked in my favour, im just so happy its over and just in time for the birth of our first child, i know ill still smoke weed now and again because i prefer it to alcohol which i class as just as nasty as heroin , but each to their own and good luck!!!

Vinny god bless you man I been on sub for about 3years taking 4mg a day and I can't get off them I'm trying to ever day its a fight but god bless sub I rather take 4mg of sub then 25 pain pills a day

The films are very new, and like one poster said, it depends on your system. The company that makes subs says between 11 and 24 days, I am pretty sure this is based on 16 mgs per day. If you are taking one 8 mg film, count on at least a week to test positive for bupenorphine in the urine, and 3 days of it blocking opiates. It should quell wd for at least 2 days without taking anymore at a dose of 8 mgs.

The half life is 72 hours, as mentioned. Now this is multiplied exponentially after taking if for some time.
Why do you need this info.? (no judgment, just curious). If you're looking to use an opiate, and get a buzz of it, I think the answer you're looking for might differ than for other medical reasons.

Hi there:
I am on and of Buprenorphine 8mg for about 2 years now (to stay awake during the day 1 pill cut in 4 quarters (2mg) during the day). In order to not get into withdrawl you need to tape it down. Meaning you take every day a quarter of the pill less. I have done this 4 times now and it really works. And it stays in the Body for at least 4 full days. I stopped it on Saturday. I had Surgery on Monday and was put on Percocet. Today is Wednesday and I still have a lot of pain. That means the Buprenorphine is still in the Body. What is very important to say: You need to drink a lot of water to flush you body faster. It really works. And if you stop it slowly you will have really only very mild withdrawl symtomps if any at all. Most worst is that you get very tired. Do not stop it cold turkey that will really get you in trouble. I have been taking subs for about 6 days now and I only take half a strip a day. I have to take a urine test to get my ADHD meds and I was wondering if subs would show up in that test or even if they would test me for those? Does anyone have any insight on my question? And to everyone having this trouble my heart goes out to each and everyone of yall bc I know how this feels too and I know we all have the strength to get through this.

It's half-life is 72 hrs. I just came off of it and it's not fun but it can be done. My doc was trying to get me to eat 8mg a day, but being the rebel I am and not wanting to completely listen to him i was taking 1/4 to 1/8 a day... basic crumbs. Anyhow the first 3 days aren't so bad but 4 and 5 were the worst for me. We're all different though. Exercise helped me a lot. You will feel like you have the worst stomach pains ever but you just have to remember it'll get better not worse. Pain is weakness leaving the body. You need to get out and just walk and let your stomach "stand up" laying down is the worst for you. Insomnia will occur but it's whatever. sleep is overrated anyhow. Bananas and mucho water helped a lot for me. It'll help get the toxins out faster. Loose butt will occur for 7-10 days but at least you're going. After the first week of not taking any subs you will feel like a different person trust me.

Hey jayguy, how long we're you on the subs? I took them to get off pain meds, only took 3 or 4 films in all. I did it like u. 1/2, then 1/4 until I was free. I had no w/d and felt pretty good. Then when I was in pain, I have MS I thought I would take the subs I had left. In 3 weeks I did 7 8mg films. Never consistant on dosage bu t did them every day. I know it doesn't sound like much for many people but I have never felt worse than I do now. I stopped the subs and started feeling depressed, fatigue like I have never felt, nauseous, crying. I finally realizes it was w/d from sub after reading all these posts. How long does this feeling last? Weeks? Days? I can't figure out how to go on with my pain from MS and his w/d. I would rather have pain than this anyday. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. I have 2 films. I cut the first on into 16 thin strips. I did one in the morning and felt much better but had to do another this evening.

I have been taking sub for a few yrs and take four 8 mg daily. I just stopped cold turkey 4 days ago and the wd were bad the first 3 days for me w/ being lethargic, joint pain & anxiety. If u have Xanax to take, it does help. My 4th day I have had more energy. I sure hope I'm over the worst of it?

Hey I've noticed quite a few people saying that they either experience little withdrawal from Sub's or none at all.. That's awesome! But I've been taking it for like 4 years now and I only take like 2-4 mgs/day. I take it in the morning and every day I wake up and after only being awake for about 30 minutes I start getting the sweats and cold chills and feel like I'm going to crawl out of my skin! And it's not like I'm thinking about taking it, honestly I don't think about it at all or remember that I have to take it until I start feeling sick. And it's been like that ever since I first started taking it. I've tried to stop taking it several times and have failed because I get so sick.

Count me in the no w/d category. I'm on 6mg/day for fibro pain. It is a miracle drug for me. I was bedridden prior to getting on it. Now I am living again. There have been a couple of times when the pharmacy screwed something up and I had to go without for a few days. Absolutely nothing happened to me except that by day 4 or 5 my fibro pain starts creeping back a little.
In fact, I'm doing so well on it, that sometimes I just forget to take it for a couple of days. If I don't have the pain, I just don't think about it.
I guess it just goes to show that every "body" is different!

I was put on suboxone 8mg three times a day for a year and a half, and I go days and weeks without taking it and I never get any withdrawl symptoms, so I guess I'm lucky in that way.

Me and my husband were on pain meds and when we stopped we felt horrible. Then we tried sub strips and were told there were no withdrawel. We just want off this stupid medicine! Its been days and we feel so bad u wouldn't believe. Does neone know what we can do to make withdrawels not so bad? This is worst thing I've experienced in all my life!!! Please help!!!

the only thing I have found that helps with the withdrawls is taking benzos, such as zanex, clonopin, etc. hope that helps.

The PDA says it's half life is 72 hours. On the forums, a gentleman named Denny dud a breakdown of the dose os sub your on and an estimation if how long it would take to be fully eliminated.
Remember a half-life just Indicates how long it takes 50% to get out of your system. So after your last dose, every 72 hrs, 50% is eliminated according to the scientific literature.
There is some people who have been on it for years, who believe this number is an approximation, and may vary from person to person.
But that should give you an idea.
My feeling for most of us, a good month is enough time for most of it to be out. That's why the Withdrawl is SO prolonged and nasty.
I was misprescribed thus drug for depression, and never could get off it... it changed life, not in a good way.
If you can avoid it, that's my feeling. But each person and circumstance is different.

How could a doctor prescribe suboxone for depression, that is terrible..it was made to get off pain killers. I hope that doctor is not working anymore.
Suboxone has helped me alot with my addiction to pain killers but the downfall to that is u get hooked on the sub,but im working my way back out that dark whole and its so much better ... so if there is anyone reading this than trust me when i say that nothing good is going to come from abusing any drug... trust in the LORD and let him give you strength to say no!!!
